Social Feat: Friends Everywhere

First Post
Hello! This feat is sort of in what you might call the chain of Leadership and 'Increased Contacts' from Cityscape. Instead of providing a set contact person or followers, this is an attempt at modeling the typical charismatic rogue. This is the person who always says "I know a guy" (or girl) for whatever situation. Maybe he can get in to see the local crime boss, or is just in good with the local ladies, but he can usually say he knows someone to contact. There is also a bit of a rule in there to model the oft-encountered scene of said character getting in trouble with his contact. Maybe the lady he's contacting is ticked off from the last time he came around, or perhaps the crime syndicate has it out for him now, but fast talking and/or a job in return might be needed to get out of trouble.

Friends Everywhere (or “I know a guy”)
You have spent your life on the road, and have met people across the nation. Being so well-traveled, you can usually find someone around to help you when you need it. You seem to have friends everywhere, allowing you to find goods, services or information.
Prerequisites: Bardic Knowledge class feature or Diplomacy 5 ranks, Gather Information 5 ranks

Benefit: You may make an Int or Bardic Knowledge check to remember an individual you have encountered in your travels, gaining enough information to learn where you can (usually) find them. This feat does not allow you to find or track a specific individual. It may, however, allow you to locate an individual who can provide information towards finding a specific item or person (probably giving a bonus to a later Gather Information check, or reducing the time required). Thus, you cannot request to find ‘Baron Oxley’, but you can try to think of a noble who might meet with you, or who can give you information on a specific person. Where gathering information can take all night (and makes your presence known in the area), this feat gives you a chance to know who to contact, and gives you a general idea of how to do so more quickly and discreetly than gathering information would.

Special: This Int or Bardic Knowledge check cannot be retried. If you don’t know anyone around who can help with your situation, that doesn’t change. You may make another check to look for similar help after gaining a level or going to a different population center (town, city, or in large cities, district). You may, however, make a new check to look for different help; thus, should you fail a check to find someone who can sell you a particular magic item (probably a Master Tradesman or fence, DC 25 or 30), you can still use this feat to attempt a meeting with a local bureaucrat.

It is strongly suggested that the DM make a percentile roll to determine the NPC’s attitude. While this feat helps the character contact an NPC, it does not guarantee help, nor that the character will be met with good will. Liberal uses of diplomacy may be needed in order to secure the desired help.

Some people have retainers, servants, or other officials who must be dealt with to attain access. Even if you once saved the local king’s daughter and were promised a reward in the future, fancy talking may be required to get their officials to listen to you.

Reuse and Gather Information: The chart below provides examples of help that might be provided. In addition, some people cannot be called on as often as others. While a friendly bar maid might talk with you each day, a particular government official might help you only once a year or more. Also note that any time this is used to reduce the time of Gather Information checks, the time cannot be reduced below 1 hour. It may not be a full hour, however. It is considered to take between 1 and 60 minutes to perform the check, according to the DM and the story.

Synergy: If you have 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (local) you get a +2 bonus on these checks.
