Some Bars start 'Game Nights'

Game Day in bars. If anyone has one of these around, maybe try bringing in some D&D minis or passing out some copies of GURPS Lite? :) Other board games, like Munchkin, Chez Geek, Agora, stuff most people never ever see.

Bringing the gaming table to the local dive bar . . . Gawd, that's just beautiful. I can just picture it now: the perfect mix of dice tossing and LARP combat without the fake punches. The really tanked ones can be the spellcasters (it ain't quite magic missile, but its still a projectile spell).

But then you end up playing a Paladin under a tyrannical DM and you lose your alignment because you neglected to turn the guy you just knocked out onto his side so he doesn't suffocate if he vomits.

That's Latin for "cool"
All Tom Wham games are pretty much great for this.

If I were a bar manager I'd be skeptical. The idea is not to get people to play games, the idea is to get them to buy coffee/beer/munchies/whatever. If a bunch of gamers came in for a session of D&D, I'd want some kind of minimum purchase or a table rental fee.

I own a nightclub in Salt Lake City (Area 51) and have thought about this idea for a long time. For it to be successful, a broad spectrum of games would need to be available for play. My concept was pool, darts, casino games, RPG's, board games, and a LAN with wireless access.

I am considering Sundays, since the other nights of the week are busy. It would be limited to 18+ due to the laws here, but we would have beer, full liquor, some food, sodas (especially Mt. Dew), coffee, water, etc. available.

What other items do you think would have appeal?

When I was in University in Montreal we gamed at "Wanda's" every now and again.

The ale was cheap, but the ambiance was wonderful. :D

Alas ... but all good things eventually come to an end, and when a pair of dice ended up on stage, we were asked to keep both our books in our bags and our "dice" in our pockets.

In Seattle, there was a small neighborhood pub (Roanoke I think) that actually had a table set up for playing Warhammer. It seemed the owner was a big nut for the mini games. I don't know if it still goes on but a few years back when I was trying to set up a weekly game there it seemed pretty tough to find an open slot.
For RPG's though, I have a hard enough time role playing in ANY public place, game stores included...but pour enough ale down my gullet....well, I COULD role play in a bar!

I can't imagine that you would want a LAN setup in a bar. Too many liquids around keybords and other electrical devices, even if you limit it to non-alchoholic beverages.

A friend and I 'silly' game in a pub before the others turn up for the semi-regular DnD game back at his shed. No one has asked to join in and no one seems to care even when we managed to sprawl Zombies over 3 tables ;)

If he isn't avaliable and I turn up early I usually go down there for a couple of lemonades and set up my laptop for a game of NWN or Tiger Woods or Battlefield :)

The bi-weekly gaming club is held upstairs in a pub with a notice on the door - Aylesbury Gamers.

Its not been unheard of to be a bit merry with a group of gamers in a bar and for someone to ask a GM to run something then and there either.

I guess with my gaming pals and me gaming in pubs is no different to gaming at home :)

Card games. Aside from traditional types, the Grave Robbers from Outer Space line from z-man games is quite fun. http://www.zmangames.com/
