The headhunters are still faster than the members of the party. Having a particular mindset, they not only ignore Star, who is down, but also their own member. The injured one who had stepped over Star suddenly changes direction and charges toward the hall. He cannot know which archer shot at him, but he knows they are there.

Astrid blocks the attack by her first opponent as before, but the second cuts her torso a second time, taking her down. As her body collides with the floor, the flash of light that only that opponent can see causes him to become confused. Oorvid almost blocks the second assault of his first opponent, but it cannot cut through his tunic. The second opponent, however, causes a significant injury. Oorvid is still able to fight but unable to hurt either of his opponents. The one charges into the hall happens to target Wrenn, who takes a cut across the ribs under his left arm. It is not significant enough to make him drop his bow.

Maka moves up beyond the hall and sees Astrid on the ground. He puts an arrow into one of her opponents, putting him down. Wrenn takes a step back and fires at his aggressor, the arrow only makes a scratch as it continues on, careening off the wall and sailing harmlessly across the room. The added corrosive damage, however, incapacitates him.

Star may have gone down, but this is by far not the end of her talent. Touching the fallen foe at her feet, in just under three seconds, she siphons all of the remaining life from that enemy, bringing herself back to full health, without the other three enemies in the room having any knowledge of it.

Star Wolfess is hesitant for the moment she uses to heal her wounds, whether she should help Astrid or Oorvid. Having little time to act, she decides to help both, but starting from Astrid, to make sure that her opponent will not finish her, so the half-Kinamin kinetically pushes him out of her fallen friend to the direction of Oorvid's attackers, but only if she's sure she won't harm him as well. For the rest she rely on Wrenn and Maka. To deceive the enemies even further, she'll be lying and doing only necessary gestures.

Down but not out, Astrid sees the new focus in Star’s eyes and smiles to herself, sensing what she has done. Neither needing to move nor speak any words, ignoring her own opponent because he is confused, Astrid hopes to electrocute one of the healthy enemies fighting Oorvid, without causing any visible display of what she is doing.

Maka, who is not physically engaged with an opponent, takes aim at one of the two enemies on Oorvid. Wren, who had been encroached but managed to drop that enemy, focuses on the other opponent trying to kill Oorvid. He will continue to augment his bow shots with mystical corrosion.

The confused headhunter that had dropped Astrid is slower to respond, but the uninjured opponents facing Oorvid press their advantage. The first is unable to make contact, for his tomahawk is blocked, but the second drags his tomahawk across the ribs, again, causing enough loss of blood to bring Oorvid down. As Oorvid falls, Maka releases his arrow, which almost kills the nearest opponent.

In the next second, Star causes the confused enemy near Astrid to fall. The invisible force of air does not push the headhunter into another, but it is still enough to knock him down, momentarily preventing him from making further assaults. Just after this Wrenn moves up and fires at the other healthy opponent, burying the arrow in his gut, but the subsequent corrosion does nothing. Finally, Astrid, who cannot move, causes her confused and prone opponent to go blind, which also causes him to lose consciousness.

The one remaining opponent does not try to run but foolishly tries to reach Maka, who takes him down with an arrow. Both Astrid and Oorvid are down and cannot move.

If Oorvid can't touch any of his opponents, Star Wolfess will drag the one who is the nearest from her comrade to him. If it's unnecessary, she'll try to help others in need, but in the mean time she'll start to eat her food, as she's becoming more and more hungry after recently siphoning an enemy.

Astrid, who is lying on the ground unable to move, will do the only two things that she can at that moment. She will increase her own rate of recovery, and she will increase the mystical illumination in the room, making it much easier for everyone to see.

Maka, who is not hurt, first makes sure that all of the enemies are truly down; afterward, he will lend physical aid to Astrid, then Wrenn, then Oorvid. He will then go back to searching the headhunters. Wrenn will increase the rate of his own recovery then assist any others who need it; afterward, he will join Maka in searching the bodies.

When Star suddenly stands, completely unharmed, it momentarily startles Maka. He helps drag two of the headhunters over to Oorvid. While Oorvid does not have the necromantic talent of Star, he is able to siphon life to recover his own. It takes quite a bit longer than it had for her.

After the aid, it appears that Wrenn will recover relatively quickly, but Astrid will require several hours. It is in the party’s best interest to wait on her to recover. Despite this need, she increases the illumination in the room, considerably, making everything much easier to see and identify. Astrid also realizes that her old wolfskin mantle has sustained too many cuts and is not useless.

These headhunters are branded on their left arms just as all of the other residents were. These are all armed with small axes, called tomahawks. The blades, manufactured from Harnin, are similar in size to the carving axes that Oorvid carries, but the handles are longer. Each is equipped with arm guards, shin guards and mantles, all made from light leather. Each of them is carrying a small wooden carving that looks like some kind of cat. Each wears a necklace adorned with some creature's teeth and carries a fetish of some tiny creature’s skull.

There are stairs leading up to the surface and one other exit, on the opposite wall from which the party entered.

She pauses to take a few breaths and chew on some trail food. "While I am still down, I can examine some of those items; and since my mantle is ruined, I want to take one of theirs before we continue."
