I've found that talking to other DM's really helps. They can give you some clues if your ideas are good or stink, and can offer a new perspective on things. Given you are usually on your own planning, a DM to DM talk is refreshing.

That's one of many reasons I find this board so great.

As a DM/GM, you really do need someone else in the know about your game. I have a few friends whom entrust the plot of the game knowing that they won't use the player knowledge to their advantage in the game.

I also try to get feedback right after the game and in between games to see if there is any necessary tweaking.

Remember, you're supposed to have fun too. I wouldn't run a game if I wasn't enjoying it.
