Stacking Empower.....

Is there a simple formula to stack mutiple empowers?
Example: Maximized Fireball (60 pts of dmg), empowered 17 times
60(17x1.5)=1530 pts of dmg

Any Suggestions........

B * (1 + ((M-1) * X))

B = Base (like 10d6 in Fireball)
M = Multiplier (1.5 in Empower), must be greater than (or equal to) 1
X = Number of times applied (number of multiple Empowers)

WotC's bitch
One way to think of Thanee's formula: instead of multiplying by 1.5, each Empower adds another 50% of the base damage.

Also note, that ALL metamagic effects apply to the base damage, so a maximized empowered 10d6 fireball does:

60 (maximized) + 10d6*0.5 (empowered) = 77.5 on average.

It's '*0.5' (not '*1.5' as you might think) there, because the base 10d6 is already figured in with the maximize and the base is only added once (that's also why you have to use 'M-1' in the above formula, where the '1 +' part stands for the base added only once to the tally).

For those of us who don't read Formulain...;)

Take whatever the damage the spell inflicts, in this case 60. and cut it in half. Round down if you have to, i.e., if the damage was 21, half would be 10. Then multiply this damage by the # of Empowers, (30 x 17 = 510). Add the base of 60 for a whopping 570 points of damage.

(A+(.5*X))*base, X=number of empowers, A=0 if there are other metamagic feats affecting damage applied, 1 otherwise. Note that this works for zero empowers, as well. To add other metamagic feats, set A=0 and come up with another equation for that feat. :)

Sorry, as an engineer, I'm drawn to math discussions like a moth to a flame.

As an added bonus feature, a quote:
"There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who do not."

(edit: forgot other feats might effect it. Doh.)

ROFL!

Why does a programmer get Halloween and Christmas mixxed up?

Because 31 OCT = 25 DEC.

...
my futile attempt to a contribution to thread here...

MAXimized Spell with X number of Empowers

MAX + X(0.5 * avg.damage) = total damage

60 + 17(0.5 * 35) = 357.5, round down to 357.

The 35 comes from 10d6, where the average roll of a d6 is 3.5 .

Yes, but that ain't it. Hang on . . .

Never mind, I didn't realize that you didn't mean that as your opinion of the formula, did you? Alrighty then . . .

That ain't it either. That one will get the same screwed results as the OP's thought on it.

Wait a sec, no, it CAN work, it's just using more information than is needed. Since Empower Spell is the only one with a multiplier that works like that, half of that formula is unnecessary.
