Star Frontiers to D20/ D20M?

Just wondering if anyone here has started working on anything like this.

I've been trolling the web the past 2 weeks looking for SF info. I broke out my old Star Frontiers material & am very interested in it's conversion to either D20 or D20 Modern. I've been posting on Starfrontiers.org's site but was hoping I might get some fresh ideas here.

Can anyone help?

Thanks aplenty!

I renewed my interest in Star Frontiers last week. There is a guy on the WotC boards trying to do a conversion, but he and I seem to disagree a little, so no biggie.

Right now, I am wondering if a D20 Modern base, with some expanded skills, and the Vitality/Wound system would work pretty effectively. I would like to do something where the base mechanics are pretty much OGC that we could lay down the Product Identify of Star Frontiers on top of.

Would you have any interest in trying to collaborate a bit?

Anyone want to bet that D20 Future will have at least some "modernized" SF material in it (in addition to a ton of recycled Alternity filler).

I've also run into the person you are referring to on the Wizards boards. Or at least I think it's the same one.

Anyway,
I don't have a huge amount of time to devote to this at least not untill mid July. At the moment I'm closing on our first home & getting ready to move.
Once I'm all settled in, I'll have a lot more time to work on it. I'll start piecing together some thoughts over the next few days. I should have a basic framework laid out on race conversion. We can also take what's on the various Star Frontier sites that have done some work on this.

The hardest hurdle will be classes. I realy like the idea of using the D20 Modern basic classes & creating talent Trees that reflect the SF universe. Then all the Professions can be advanced classes.

Now I realy like the idea of using the Psychic's Handbook by Green Ronnin for the Mentalist. It realy fills the niche for a low power, hard Sci-Fi kind of setting. At least a heck of a lot better than the XPH. That is much more in line with the high magic, high fantasy of D&D. Which realy does not fit into a more tech-savy world.

Anywho,
Waddya think?

Good point.

I still would like to move forward with creating a foundation & setting the groundwork so-to-speak. That way, when we all get our grubby hands on D20F, there will be that much less work to do :)

I think you are almost inside my mind looking at this stuff. :) I ordered the Psychics Handbook specifically so I could see if I could use it for this. I ordered it Sunday and it should arrive this afternoon or tomorrow.

Race conversion doesn't look overly difficult. There are a couple of tricky things to handle specific racial features, but nothing insurmountable.

SF Professions as advanced classes is also what I was thinking.

I'm not enitrely sure what to do with money though. In theory, I like a lot of what I see in D20 Modern's wealth system. But, using that might change a little of the feel for the Star Frontiers universe. I'm not sure.

excelent!

COOL!

Well, here' ssomething outa my rear end for classes. this is VERY rough...

Classes:

Strong
Enforcer
Martial Artist
Tough
Explorer
Vagabond
Fast
Pilot
Infiltrator
Dedicated
Mentalist
Investigator
Smart
Technician
Scientist
Charismatic
1st Contact Specialist
Detective

We don't have to have all these classes. I was just trying to see what I could come up with to mirror D20M a bit. We can actually skip the whole stat related advanced class bit but I could see needing about 6-10 advanced classes at least for variety.

That would be nice actually. But, WotC hasn't really said much about it that I have seen. :(
It's still too early to hype that book, especially when the news first leaked about it was a year ago.

Moridin got a d20 Future Story Hour going (yes, THE Rodney Thompson of SWRPGNetwork and contributing writers to WotC's Star Wars is named among the book's designer) on his blog. No game information, just a story (fluff) version of the game he is running/playtesting the d20 Future rules.

If anything they'll start releasing information in the latter half of May, if not June before the August release date.
