I think the sword made it over the hand and eye simply because Vecna is so overplayed. Kas not so much.

Vecna has had a lot of limelight in the last twenty years, so I wasn't surprised he lost out. But I think a lot of gamers (like myself) have a fondness for the lore behind the artifacts of Kas and Vecna, the classic tale of evil begets evil. For me, I couldn't even remember the sword's powers while I was voting for it, just the background story. It's classic D&D.
