Swallowed character and his stuff

Let's assume some character gets swallowed by some monster. As long as he stays in the monsters belly, he suffers some acid damage each round. Would this acid damage apply to all his stuff too (gear, weapons, armor, etc.)?

And a related question. Does this quote from the PHB: "Energy and sonic attacks deal damage to most objects as they do to creatures; roll damage and apply it normally." mean, that hardness doesn't apply?

Thanks.

No, all items carried or worn by a creature are assumed to be unaffected by an effect unless the effect tragets items, states that it affects carried or worn items, or a natural 1 is rolled on a saving throw against magical attack (in which case one exposed item is harmed).

It is "Acid and sonic attacks deal damage to most objects just as they do to creatures; roll damage and apply it normally after a successful hit." and yes it means hardness doesn't apply assuming that the sentence means "apply it normally" as per what is normal for creatures not what is normal for objects.
