Swarms Question

I was just looking at a swarm of bats and I just don't get it. 5,000 in a 10x10 area?!? 5,000!!!

The average hp for the swarm is 13 (IIRC), which isn't very much even with the 50% dam from slashing & piercing weapons. It's quite possible for a fighter to deal that in one shot. 5,000 bats in one attack!?!

Something doesn't jive here...

A bat swarm reduced to 0 hp disperses, but that doesn't mean all 5000 bats are dead.

Bat swarms should be immune to all weapon damage. They are diminutive creatures, and the general swarm rule says swarms of diminutive creatures are immune to all weapon damage. And all the other swarms of diminutive creatures say they are immune to all weapon damage. I believe the line saying otherwise in the bat swarm listing is an error.

I'm making this statement without checking any FAQs or errata listings.
