Tasselhoff's Map Pouch
Initiative Round
Tasslehoff’s Map Pouch is a new graphic supplement for the Dragonlance: Age of Mortals setting by Sovereign Press. This $14.99 folio contains 12 maps (including a poster-sized one) that covers important regions and areas from the Age of Mortals and War of Souls. Cartography is by Sean Macdonald whose work I would imagine you will be seeing more of in the near future. The man is very talented.
The folio consists of the following maps:
• Tower of High Sorcery in Wayreth
• Teyr
• Storm’s Keep
• Solanthus
• Solace
• Sanction
• Nalis Aren: Lake of Death
• The Desolation (a map by Kronn Thistleknott)
• Darkling Hall
• Citadel of Light
• Ansalon in the Age of Mortals (by Tasslehoff Burrfoot)
• The Continent of Ansalon (poster-size)
Maps that show the interiors of the structures are Tower of High Sorcery, Storm’s Keep, and Darkling Hall. Regional or city location maps are: Teyr, Solanthus, Solace, Sanction, Citadel of Light, and Nalis Aren. The last two maps are the Kender hand-drawn ones from Kronn and Tasslehoff.
Critical Hit
The poster map is beautiful and literally filled with every important location on the continent. Tasslehoff’s map is filled with little personal observations, some of which are downright funny like, “Note to self: Don’t eat yellow snow… again.” and “Looked for Fizban there, but couldn’t find him.”
Critical Fumble
All but the Continent of Ansalon are 8 1/2 x 11 inches in size. Although I understand the economics behind this, it still would have been good to at least have the interior maps (Tower of High Sorcery, Storm’s Keep) large enough to utilize miniatures with.
Coup de Grace
Obviously, this is a niche product intended for Dragonlance fans and those who play during the Age of Mortals period. Considering what you get, the price is reasonably fair since everything is in full color. It’s not for every gamer, but for the Dragonlance aficionado, I would think it is on their must-buy list.
