Seregal carefully goes first, slinking foward around Duncan, being fully alert to any strange environmental changes or unusual surrounds. He's working on a map in his head that he'll draw up later on, and already has a basic outline of what they have discovered so far in mind. He has a rope (presumably held or tied to Duncan) just in case anything goes wrong, or if more exciting or unexpected discoveries occur.

OOC: Just searching in general, to represent my careful forward exploration and mapping of the complex so far. Trained in Searching:

Duncan and Seregal (and all other interested parties) head down to the other end of the now-corridor. The gravity does not fluctuate, and the light remains even and bright throughout. You see no scuffs, marks, or other dings of hard use, not even dirt on the floor. At the far end, it's a little hotter, but not overwhelming. More of the ubiquitous symbols are on the wall near the massive door, and the sounds, the rising whine and whump, are much clearer here.

Seregal pauses to carefully examine the symbols and then listens to the door. "An engine, perhaps?" he muses. He thinks about all that he's learned so far and then tentatively tries to open the door.

Father Seren examines the symbols carefully, glides his hand along a symbol and the slab parts smoothly, revealing a chamber beyond. This one seems oriented the same as the chamber above: parallel with the earth's surface, so in theory there will be an awkward but non-lethal gravity shift to walk into the room, as there is a very short right-angle vestibule leading into the room.

The heat and humidity are almost unbearable here, and the repeated whine and whump! are painfully loud. The room is dark, lit only by three glowing plates set into the floor, bound by strips of white light on their borders. The one on the right is surrounded by a shallow moat of some clear liquid, no more than a foot across, being fed by a small trough of the stuff that pours from a pipe in the wall. The surface of that plate shimmers and gleams and writhes slightly, like something is under it.

The one on the left throws a shaft of light straight up to the ceiling over a hundred feet above, and occasionally crackles of light that resemble the symbols you've seen leap across the floor from this plate to the other two and back again.

The plate in the middle seems to be the source of the sound you've been hearing. As the whine builds, the light in its center glows, and the whump! sound is a huge discharge of energy that springs upward and then takes a sharp turn south along the ceiling and out of sight. The power in this room is enough to make everyone's hair stand on end.

Duncan takes the scene in, then starts calculating strategies in his tactical mind.

"The shifting plate... the others discharge energy, why not it? Is the floor around it melted? Perhaps the malfunction is there that is causing the heat above us."

"It may be a sink of some kind," Echo posits. "Excess energy from the other places could be stored there, or grounded out or otherwise made harmless."

She looks around the room to see if there's any other exits or features that the strange plates in the floor otherwise distracted them from noticing.

Echo, you see on the wall in which the door is set, just inside the room, another control panel similar to the one above, though this one is even more extensive.

"Ah, there we are," Echo says briskly. She steps into the room, carefully avoiding the weird panels for now, and goes over to the instrument panel. There, she studies the controls, taking into account the insights the others have gleaned in her attempt to further decipher the symbols for herself.

(OOC - Having trouble with InvisCastle at the moment...I can roll, but the results page isn't loading properly for me. Isida feel free to roll on my behalf if you like. Echo is specialized in Numenera, if that helps. :))

Seregal says, “Hmm, I wonder what that liquid does. And where that beam of light is going! Most curious.”

While Echo studies the control panel, Seregal looks at the liquid coming out of the pipe and pooling in a trough around the right-hand panel. “There’s something under this,” he notes, and carefully tries to probe under the panel with one of his tools to learn more about it.
