My preorder of Unveiled Masters by Paradigm Concepts arrived at my FLGS yesterday. I picked it up this afternoon have only given it a quick glance but I like what I see so far. Richard Pace is quickly becoming my favorite artist. Check it out.

That's co-written by our own Hellhound! I can't wait to see it.

I'm really disappointed by the cover, though; I don't need soft-core bondage porn with my illithids, thanks. I'll be buying it in spite of the cover, not because of it.

Wow, I've got to agree with you Piratecat, that cover's fairly poor.

I really wish RPG products could get away from the scantily-clad-female- cover-art crap. Doesn't do anything for me anymore, if ever it did.

I agree, the bondage cover is in fairly poor taste.

...and in the "unintentional gaffes" category, that is just a jacket flap -- isn't it?

I see Tentacled creatures wrapping their excess appendages around helpless half-nekkid women.

I think the biggest shock, is that she isn't wearing a sailor-esque school girl outfit.

A good point for the illo, though, is that there, we can see why the squidheads may attack with their tentacles. Most illithid pics show them with little squiggles no longer than fingers (reach: 0 ft.).

Otherwise, I was surprised to see this. Paradigm has the license to publish OA material ? That must be quite complicated to obtain... But if it's possible, this mean we may hope for DragonFist to be an OA product also...

They have a license for L5R d20 products, but I'm not sure about OA itself. I'm sure there are some very fine lines to walk along for this, considering that aspects of L5R d20 (Rokugan) are OGC and other aspects that would appear to be OGC are not because they are derivative of OA.

Oh yeah, and I'm jealous. I haven't seen a copy of this book yet... only the pre-press PDF version.

I picked up Unveiled Masters on Thurs, and have read most of it now. All I can say is WOW!!! I never was a big fan of mind flayers before this book, but they definitely have a place in my game world now. I especially like the alien mindset they have and the Great Work, since before they always were presented like another evil subterranean empire, much like the drow. The info on illith sub-races is great, and illustrates how insidious and subtle flesh-crafting can be. And the prestiege classes are enough to make any DM cackle with glee (I especially like the Skull Collector, Warrior of the Violet Line, and Master of the Flesh). This book really makes them sinister and frightening, and greatly expands their horizons with new options. Hellhound and gang- wonderful job!!! :D
