The Sunless Citadel (IC)

Grimror

First Post
Talus lays out his thieves' tools and sets to work on the lock. After a few skillful twists of the wrist, the lock clicks. Talus pushes heavily and the stone door begins to open slowly with a grumble. The room is a small ten-foot square chamber hewn from stone. It contains an upright keg fashioned of rusted iron. Similarly rusted pipes lead from the keg into the floor.

"What is this? Why was this room locked?"

Hunolf laughs and says, "Did we break in here to find a rusty pot?"

He moves forward to investigate the construction.

The sounds of water sloshing can be heard from inside the keg when it is shaken or disturbed, though it is securely fastened to the ground. The lid of the keg is partially rusted in place, though it could be removed. The sides of the rusted keg appear weak enough to break through easily.

Falariel

"Based on the motif on the door, I'd guess it's the citadel's water source," says Falariel as she listens to Hunolf slosh the contents of the apparatus.

"My waterskin is full now, but we may want to keep this room in mind if we run low...assuming it's still drinkable."

With a sigh of disappointment, Talus puts his tools away. "The nice door, the nice lock.... all for a water room? Bummer." Once the rest of the party is finished with what they want in this room, Talus suggests moving on.

"Yes. Let us find something a little more interesting than a drink."

Hunolf waits for Talof to lead the way. This rankles a little - this letting the little man take the risks of point - but nevertheless Hunolf can appreciate the wisdom of letting the scout scout ahead.

The party leaves the water room and proceeds to the western door. Crudely executed symbols and glyphs, scribed in bright green dye, decorate the large and irregularly shaped crumbling chamber. A large pit in the chamber's center shows evidence of a recent bonfire, and charred bits of bone and armor are visible among the ashes. A large metallic cage in the center of the southern wall contains a gaping hole and stands empty. A small wooden bench draped with green cloth stands before the cage, and upon it sit several small objects - an ornate paintbrush and four jade figurines in the likeness of dragons. A bedroll lies near the wooden bench, from which the sound of whimpering is plainly audible.

Gamad reveals to the party that the symbols and glyphs on the walls are Draconic and read, "Here There Be Dragons."

Seeing no apparent enemies in the room, Hunolf rushes in, axe at the ready, and goes to stand over the bedroll. The thought that a warlike barbarian, axe raised, might spur the weeper to even greater paroxysms of grief doesn't even occur to him.

Seeing that the warrior has the creature under control, Talus takes the time to search the room even further as he walks around as quietly as possible.
