Some Valuable Information

OOC: Something the characters understand that the players need to know when collecting items that offer ability augmentation:
Bolo and Indigo are best suited to Feathers, Hair, and Stones.
Merin and Tor are best suited to Shells, Skins, and Bones.
Sheldon is best suited by Metals.
Sannit and Saemund are not yet specialized.

Sannit will help identify any of the items they found. Sannit will also do another search for metals where they are camped.

Bolo and Turtle want to go hunting and invite anyone that wants to go along. Bolo will also look for useable plants.

Sannit says, "I would vote for going to Southroad Fair directly, trading in what we have collected, and letting Giodavi know the threat at the tree is finished. After that, I'm all for setting out on our own."

Turtle is hungry.

Tellerian Hawke

Defender of Oerth
Merin and Tor are both in agreement with Sannit.

Merin says, "One of the things we should do, once we're back in town, is to check on the progress of our guild house. Also, we should probably try to acquire a regional map, so that we are less likely to get lost, and so that we will have a better idea of which direction in which to explore."

Suddenly, Myth springs at Merin from behind, playfully tackling him, and swatting at his face. Merin erupts in laughter, as he rolls around, wrestling with the big cat which he has befriended.

Day 46: The Return Trip, Day 11

Sannit will help identify any of the items they found. Sannit will also do another search for metals where they are camped.
Sheldon retrieves the bag from the burro that contains the items from the village and organizes them on the ground by types. Having Sannit pick up and hold each item, Sheldon then uses him to bolster his ability to identify their particular affinity.

Because they offer the least monetary value, it is decided to begin with the Feather Talismans.

Indigo, after making sure that the pack animals are content, elects to join Bolo and Turtle on the hunt.

Day 46: The Return Trip, Day 11, Identifying Items

OOC: Village Items:
38 various Feather Talismans
20 various colored Stones
9 various Metal Ingots
57 various Bone Talismans

GM: Identify Way:
Range = Cohesion + Will +...
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Knowledge + Wisdom + Will +...
Collegiate + Theologic +..
Time = complexity * days / (Effectiveness + Luck)
Sheldon = 57, Sannit = 41, Total = 98

After looking over all the items arrayed, Sheldon comments,
"We will not have the time to identify all of the items this evening. We will need to work on this as we travel."

Before Sannit selects a talisman, they are further divided by similarity.
OOC: Feather Talismans:
9 Chicken Feathers
9 Duck Feathers
7 Thrush Feathers
4 Calling Bird Feathers
2 Songbird Feathers
2 Stork Feathers
1 Carrion Bird Feathers
1 Wading Bird Feathers
1 Swift Feathers
1 Raptor Feathers
1 Flicker Feathers

[sblock=Chicken Feathers]Time = 1 day / (98 + 85) = 8 minutes
Time = 2 days / (98 + 65) = 18 minutes[/sblock]
GM: It takes a total of 40 minutes to identify 5 of the chicken feathers and another hour plus 12 minutes to identify the other 4.
#TypeAugmentUseValue
5Bantam FeathersHealth +1Invigorate +12
4Turkey FeathersHealth +2Invigorate +24

OOC: Note: Only Bolo and Indigo may make full use of the Turkey Feathers. For all others they function no differently than Bantam Feathers.

Sheldon -
"I am seeing a pattern here. Once we have this set identified, I think it will save us considerable time in the future."

Due to the amount of time needed to identify the few items thus far, Sheldon and Sannit decide to stop and search for metals.

Day 46: The Return Trip, Day 11, Hunting

GM: Nature Lore:
Mind + Knowledge + Persona + Wisdom +...
Commercial + Obscurative +...
Sense Animal / Sense Plant
Time = rarity * days / (effectiveness + luck)
Sense Animal / Plant:
Range = Cohesion + Persona
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Cohesion + Knowledge + Persona +
Wisdom +...
Collegiate + Academic +...
Indigo = 14 paces, 98%: Bolo = 14 paces, 100%: Total = 28 paces, 198%

Bolo and Indigo decide simply upon game animals and medical plants.

[sblock=Game]Time = 3 days / (198 + 52) = 17 minutes[/sblock]
[sblock=Medicine]Time = 1 day / (198 + 81) = 5 minutes[/sblock]
GM: Within slightly more than 15 minutes, the two are able to collect a pineland hog that provides 100 bricks of meat and a hide of 50% coverage. They are also very quickly able to locate leaves of Soothing.

Since it took so little time to locate game, the two decide to further specify on medicinal plants, looking for bark that might aide in the restoration of the essence controlling the function of the body systems.
[sblock=Medicine]Time = 3 days / (198 + 75) = 16 minutes[/sblock]
GM: Once again, it take very short time to locate the desired bark.

Having daylight remaining, the two decide to search for a bark that might aide in the restoration of the essence controlling the function of the circulatory system.

[sblock=Medicine]Time = 3.2 days (198 + 71) = 17 minutes[/sblock]
OOC: Total Plants Collected:
Leaf: Soothing +1
Bark: Fulfillment +2
Bark: Coagulation +2

Day 46: The Return Trip, Day 11, Searching for Metals

GM: Detect Metals:
Range = Cohesion + Will + Theologic
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Knowledge + Cohesion + Will + Wisdom +
Collegiate + Theologic +...
Sheldon = 23 paces, 64%, Sannit = 13 strides, 47%, Total = 30.5 paces, 111%
Time = rarity * days / (Effectiveness + conduit + luck)

Having limited time until it will be too dark to see, Sheldon and Sannit decide to stick with a few of the more common metals.

[sblock=Time]Zinc = 1 day / (111 + 100 + 61) = 5 minutes
Iron = 1 day / (111 + 100 + 51) = 6 minutes
Tin = 1.4 days / (111 + 100 + 50) = 8 minutes
Aluminum = 1.4 days / (111 + 100 + 72) = 7 minutes
Copper = 2 days / (111 + 100 + 76) = 10 minutes
Silver = 2 days / (111 + 100 + 96 + 70) = 7 minutes[/sblock]
GM: Only a faint trace of zinc, iron, tin, or copper is detected. 5 ingots of silver are collected, and a small vein of aluminum is located. To collect the aluminum would require tools the Seekers do not currently carry.

OOC: New Metals:
5 Silver Ingots
Small Vein of Aluminum

After finding the vein of aluminum, Sannit chuckles and says to Sheldon, "Well we chose a proper name for our group. We are the Seekers and we're damn good at it."

After returning from hunting, Bolo looks over the feathers, feeling the difference in the turkey feathers as opposed to other materials. "I wonder what causes the difference," she asks aloud to no one in particular. She decides to research this further, maybe asking Lyndha what she knows when they return to town.

Turtle takes a nap to try and get his mind off the fresh hog meat they brought back.

I am still working on the numbers for time needed to identify or discover. I am not yet happy with the pattern.

Day 47: The Return Trip, Day 12

Having water, it is decided to save some time and take a more direct return route, so the Seekers cross the tiny rivulet and head in a west-southwesterly direction. The rain of the season continued on through mid-morning, making it pointless to try to dry anything.

Several varmints are disturbed during the day's travel, but having plenty of meat already, none are taken. Merin, in particular, is pleased when the party comes upon a a large lizard. The beast is mostly brown with some faint striping of black and some flecks of green. It is about the size of a man and identified as a male when it extends its bright green throat patch.

The animal is stunned and dispatched without damaging any of the valuable hide. Turtle and Myth happily share the meat and vitals as the rest have enough pork and venison to suffice.

OOC: New Item:
1 Lizard Hide 30% coverage
