No, it should be fine, all my suggestions were subjective based on how you were describing the character.

As a rule it's hard to make a 5e character that isn't viable. (Not that it can't be done, you'd just have to work at it.)

Got it, I'll probably go with that. Also helps that i just talked with my DM who let me go with a dire wolf companion that I can also use as a mount.
