"AH HA!" roars the half-orc triumphantly, evidently pleased and utterly convinced that his act of fear earlier on had lured the mephit into a false sense of security, allowing them strikes of opportunity. He takes his strike with a quick flourish, confidence overflowing.

Attack (1d20+6)=20, Damage (1d6+4)=9

ooc: Since Karm said he might be a while, I'll go ahead and NPC him.

Round 3, continued

Ter-raen leaps forward with a cry, and cuts the mephit again. (4 damage after DR)

Karm finishes his spell, and a gray wolf steps from the shadows behind the mephit, attacking. The summoned wolf's teeth find only air, but the distraction is enough for Kuma to sink his teeth into the mephit, drawing blood this time. Karm cheers the wolves on. (summoned wolf appears, flanking with Kuma. It misses, Kuma hits for 1 damage after DR.)

Gildrim, misgivings set firmly aside, enters the room. With a swift thrust, he pins the mephit to the floor, magic sword piercing easily through the creature's tough hide. (hits for 10 damage bypassing DR. Mephit dies.)

End combat

Karm's summoned wolf steps back into the shadows and disappears without a sound.

The room is a mildew encrusted, slime spattered mess. The large puddle lies in the middle of what used to be a large bed. The linens are coated with a thick layer of mud and clay, thus holding a large pool of brackish water perhaps a foot deep, in which the mephit's body now lies.

"Ah teuk an instant likin' tae th' wee rascal an' his claims ay grandur," says Gildrim. "He didnae seem sae wickit as th' gresslowpers. He died easily eneuch in th' end. It's a peety."

Gildrim makes no move to search the room. He waits until the team are ready to move on [OOC: through H21].

The room to the south is, in direct contrast to its opposite, quite neat. It appears to be a smaller library, with books and curios in neat rows along the shelves. The now-familiar signs of deterioration over time are present, of course, but seem somehow manageable, even orderly, in this room.

Notable among the trinkets arranged carefully on the shelves are two polished wooden batons marked with neatly carved arcane symbols: clearly they are wands.

"That's a nice find," Gildrim comments, tucking the wands away. "They micht pruive useful - Ah mean uissfu' - if we kent whit they did. We coud spend a lang time searchin' throu aw thaes books. Mebbe efter?"
