Warden Thorn Strike melee 2 with Polearm

Given the polearm is Reach 1, does this mean the sprouts from the weapon mean we can get out to 3 squares.

Okay if this doesnt work.

How about the Goliath PP that gives +1 Reach, surely that puts it out another square.

And how about a form that extends reach ?

Nope, if the power has a specific range specified the reach of the person using it doesn't matter.

reach matters if the range is 'weapon'

Isnt it Melee 2.
And in that I can see it match's Polearm Reach 1.

But isnt the melee 2 extended by "Your reach extends 1" by a Form or a the Paragon path.

No, Melee 2 does not refer to your reach.

Melee touch refers to your reach without your weapon.
Melee weapon refers to your reach with your weapon.

Melee 2 means 2 squares, the same as a feat that extends the range of your weapon does not affect Ranged 10 powers. The presence of the Weapon keyword is irrelevant to this point.

Also, weapons that have reach do not have 'Reach 1.' They have 'reach' which adds 1 to your reach when using that weapon.

You have a reach of 1. A weapon without reach has a reach, in your hands, of 1. A weapon with reach, in your hands, has a reach of 2. At no point does a weapon with reach ever have "Reach 1". Nonexistant concept is nonexistant.

I can understand something like range 10 not increasing, or bursts and blasts with set ranges.

But why do all the other powers that are normal melee and only attack adjacent squares, extent there attacks 1 square.
yet the attack that is one square out, due to things extending from the weapon, doesnt go out 1 more square, it doesnt make sense.

Because it isn't a Melee Weapon (range) power.

Alternatively, from a game balance position, because a reach of 3 is pretty bad-ass, and too bad ass for an at will power to give you.

Either way, the mechanics are set up that way for a reason.

If you want to be a reach 3 badass, just take a Sentinel with the Summer aspect, wield a Quarterstaff, take Staff Expertise, and then get to Paragon. Instant reach 3! :D

Melee 2 is a Melee attack with a set range. If you can understand it not increasing things with set ranges, you should be able to accept this. The reach of the Thorn Strike is in no way related to how far you can reach with your weapon.

There are a few attacks that are "melee weapon +1 reach", which would grow with a polearm. Heck, the assassin has a first level at-will called Inescapable Blade that "melee weapon +2 reach".

But "melee 2" is a fixed distance.

I have answered this.

Because the powers you are talking about have a range of Melee weapon. The 'weapon' in Melee weapon is a variable you plug your total reach into. 2 is a constant, you don't plug anything in to that.

Melee 2 means your weapon doesn't affect your reach. If your weapon did... it'd be Melee weapon.
