What races are left for D&D to do?

Racial stat boosts are one of the things that makes D&D D&D and not some generic fantasy roleplaying game.

In my Campaign, the players choose their race based on strong story ideas, partly because 5E does not punish or unduly reward different races so there is no overriding necessity for players to scour the charts for that +2 WIS race. Bounded accuracy, stats limited to 20 and my own laid-back style mean players can play and enjoy a wide variety of races for their characters. It also helps that I run in a mishmash of Eberron and every bizarre world that strikes my fancy.
