What would you do with these Orcs?

After reading the rather funny cartoon here:

http://archive.gamespy.com/comics/nodwick/ffn/ffn.htm

I was wondering what the community here would do if placed in such a posistion by their GM?

I am presuming a standard D&D world here- not a variant like Sovergien Stone or Dawnforge where Orcs can be 'good guys'

For those that can't reach the cartoon- the players Heroes have just killed a bunch of Orcish warrieors and are now left with just the Females and children. One Hero, a paladin, cant just kill them cos he would consider it an evil act, but as one of the others points out "we just slaughtered their Fathers and Husbands right in front of them. They're messed up for life. What are you going to do? Adopt the orphans, marry the Widows, and pay for greif counselling?" (its funnier in the strip).

GM's- Ever done this to you players? How did they react?

In one session I ran, the PCs cleared out a cave that was being used as a base by an orc raiding party. While there, the PCs found an unarmed, frightened female orc hiding in one of the rooms (she was one of the orc chieftain's concubines). After speaking with her for a few minutes (one of the PCs knew the orcish language), the PCs determined that she wasn't dangerous and let her go.

If they would have killed her despite the fact that she clearly wasn't dangerous, though, I definately would have considered it an evil act.

This is one of the benefits of Arcana Unearthed. When my giant, a war main, came across the wounded, woman and children, of the beastmen, I killed them. No way was my character going to let them breed more monsters to attrack the Ebonring Keep.

With alignments, that's a lot more difficult to consider. After all, if they're not attacking and they're just waiting, are they evil? If they have no evil intent, are they evil? Thinking of that reminds me of the George R.R. Martin book where the lady of dragons saves someone only to have that person stab them in the back because it was naive to think that she'd been 'saved'.

If you see a thread that's repetitious, folks, then don't post in it. Posting "Been there, done that" to new users is just rude and discourages folks from posting. Yup, some topics will come up multiple times; just ignore them when they do.

That's Latin for "cool"
C'mon guys. The original poster hasn't been here that long and it is the inherient nature of message boards to have topics reoccur now and then. That's why we keep discussing my former relationship with Milla Jovovich even though I'm really quite bored of discussing our trysts and the occasional orgy with various supermodels (OK maybe that topic doesn't come up often, or even at all, but it does in my own brain and that's all that matters!)

Ahem.

In any event, Ogrebear, as a DM I would handle the issue by not involving orc kiddies in the encounter in the first place. As a player I would handle it by capturing them and letting the local authorities handle the issue. Anything else, as Snoweel eloquently put it, would depend on the nature of the campaign.

Happy gaming!
