Then someone should be reprimanded for contaminating the sample. There is a strand of hair on the first image and it appears to be a bit of lint or dandruff on the other image.

I remember about a decade or so ago, there was a similarly dark material using an acid-etched nickel alloy. It didn't get much press because it wasn't industrially useful: too thick & massive a layer of the alloy would be required to get the blackout effect. That meant it was useless as a coating.
