Generalist Wizard, nothing but metamagicks and item creation feats before Epic levels (this includes Magickal Artisan feats, form FRCS). Human, for the bonus feat. Hit Wizard 17, multiclass to Cleric. At Cleric(7)/Wizard(17), pick up Runecaster (FRCS). During epic levels, pick up Epicmetamagics ... and Improved Metamagic, as often as possible. Efficient Creation is another good idea.

At Wizard(17)/Cleric(7)/Runecaster(10), pick up Druid, and go to level 17 there.

Then get to Paladin 15 ... then Ranger 15.

Next pick up Psion (20) and PsyWar (20); maybe stop over for some Bard (20)-ish too.

...

If you survive that long, you have access to literally EVERY single spell in the game, along with all the psionics -- arcane and divine alike. Compared to others of yoru net level (somewhere north of 100), your caster level will suck, but you can create anything dreamable, short of an artifact and cast LOTS of different sorts of epic spells ...).

The character would be boring, and I'd never play it.

But it'd work for item CREATION.

There's some Assassin-only spells in Song and Silence, and some Domain-only spells... a lot of them you can get with Miracle, but not some of the 9th level ones like Greater Aspect of Deity.

For that matter, Miracle will cover you for all the Ranger, Paladin, Assassin, and Bard spells anyway...

Okay, then.

Wizard(20) -- basic item creation feats and metamagic feats, plus access to scads of wizard spells.

Cleric (10) -- two domains, start the clerical spellcasting progression

Runecaster (10) -- make runes. More cleric spells.

Divine Disciple(1) -- third domain.

Church Inquisitor(1) -- prestige domain

Contemplative(10) -- second and third prestige domains, temporal immortality so you can live long enough to do all this (heh), Outsider base type.

Divine Oracle(1) -- fourth prestige domain

Sacred Exorcist (1) -- fifth prestige domain

Sacred First (1) -- fifth domain

Warpriest(1) -- sixth prestige domain

Net Caster Levels:
... Wizard(20)
... Cleric(36)

Total level: 56

If you can't cover all your bases with 56 levels split between Wizard and Cleric/Cleric Prestige Classes ... if five standard domains and six prestige domains aren't enough ...

...

... somthing's terribly, terribly wrong. LOL.

Generalist wizard, no school specialization. Since stronger items need a higher caster level, you won't want to multiclass. Of course, you'll take lots of item creation feats, or the whole business will be pointless.

For the spells that aren't on your list, you'll either hire a caster (either a high-level one; or an apprentice, which you provide with scrolls, staves, or wands), or get your hands on some ranks of use magic device, and cast the needed spells from scrolls, staves, or wands.

To get use magic device, you get some levels or rogue or bard, and use as much of the rogue/bard skill points to max it out (since it's an exclusive skill, you won't be able to increase the ranks with wizard skill points). While the rogue will give you more skill points, the bard will enable you to use items with spells from the bard's list.
With 5 ranks in decipher script, you'll get a synergy bonus to UMD, if you use it for scrolls. The same goes for 5 ranks in spellcraft. Also, skill focus will help.

You could also make a cleric with the magic domain, which allows him to use items as a wizard of half his cleric level, giving you access to two class lists.

Skill points aren't an issue - a bard's base skill points are more than sufficient to keep an Exclusive skill maxed out.

Why so many classes? Wouldn't a straight Wizard be able to make any magic item anyway? Surely a Wish spell could mimic other classes spells, no? Grant it, they'd be Arcane and not Divine.

Actually, no. Wish can duplicate any 8th level or lower Wizard/Sorcerer spell (7th from a prohibited school), but only 6th level or lower for other spells (5th from a prohibited school). In other words, you can't Wish for a Holy Aura (8th level cleric spell).

Don't forget that since Use Magic Device is exclusive, you can only have ranks in it up to your bard level +3. So that means for every level in bard, youre giving up in Wizard spellcasting.

For an Item Creation character, I'd go for Cleric with the Magic Domain (said already, but I'm just reiterating). Max out Spellcraft so you have a good chance to cast Wizard spells from Scrolls. Won't give you access to every spell in the book, but you have a very wide range.

Plus Clerics are just cool :D You can stop being an Item Creator for one day, and switch over to being a healer. Sound familiar?:D :D:D
