When did DM's get lazy?

Hoo boy! There are a lot of torpedoes in the water! I think that battleship done been sunk!

The Auld Grump - DMs became lazy when the first prewritten adventure was published.

But since 98% of these products will never be referenced again, is that really true? for example, will we see Taint from Heroes of Horror in any published adventure or as part of a setting? Will Incarnum see use in Eberron or another setting?

It's great when it does get used officially as it makes another tie between the products though!
