WOIN Defensive Skills

I have a question about some of the defensive skills.

It's noted that some skills listed are classified as defensive, like Religion and Psychology. How do these skills work as defensive skills, unless it's based on a social or other non-combat situation.

Defensive skills contribute to your DEFENSE scores (NEW pg 60-61; page numbers may vary in other books).

Religion and psychology can both contribute to MENTAL DEFENSE.
