Awh, that sucks! Weird, too... I live in England and ordered off Amazon too, got the delay email stating October 7th as the estimated, then had the email stating the 17th (today) too... and apparently it's out for delivery now. Maybe they received less copies than expected?

When the PHB came out I had a similar issue. I used the customer service chat feature and complained and next thin you know I had free expedited shipping. It's always worth a try...

Did anyone in Europe order from Amazon.de ?

It has an expected delivery from 3 to 6 weeks yikes!
I've seen this with almost all their books.

I wonder if they only start shipping them to Europe on the official release date instead of getting them ready in stock?

Quite possibly. There are times when Amazon won't get the book until a couple of weeks after the standard release date, as it's another way Wizards can support game stores. However, I've seen a bunch of OOTAs being shipped out from Amazon.com, so its not applying in this case.
