I turn into an owl. I can't fly, or see in the dark, or be stealthy when I soar.

I turn into a fish. I can't breathe under water.

I turn into a wolf. I can't trip.

I turn into a hedgehog. My spines are soft and welcoming.

Seriously, if you're going to turn into an animal you should get it's NATURAL powers, which are Ex. And you should loose the ability to perform your own powers.

There. Easy, balanced, wildshape. Fools. :)

You forgot a "I'm not bothered by any of these changes" option.

Not that I'd select that if it were there though.

The term "worst" is relative thus even if a person liked ALL the changes there would still be some changes s/he liked less than others thus that person would choose that option in the above pool. (Sorry for being anal :)

Oh yeah, Paladin Summon Mount ability all the way, imho it completely changes the feel of the class to something much more magical which I don't like and abusable (NeverWinter Night's familiars anyone?).

All my beautiful figs... ruined!

For 3.0, I made about a thousand or so cardboard figs using scanned images of monsters.

Now the facings on Large, Huge and Colossal figs have changed. I guess this could be seen as an excuse to redo the whole set on glossy cardstock.

Also, I dislike the way they combined the tall and long figures into the same facing. Any of the reasons I've seen for the change to long figures has seemed like after-the-fact rationalization of a meta decision to make figs easier to use between D&D and the D&D miniatures game*. It would have been far better to bite the bullet and include complete facing rules and flesh out the movement rules a bit.

Just for the record, I think the Wildshape Ex business makes perfect sense.

You DO get the mobility (flying if you are an owl) and combat (trip if you are a wolf) Ex abilities.

You don't get the non-combat abilities like Blindsight and Scent and that seems perfectly reasonable. Your doggie nose is picking up lots of additional sensations but your human brain can't figure it out (unless you get the appropriate feat from MotW or whatever).

The rationale is simple.

Goodness me, at least druids GET Ex attacks now (constrict, trip, etc, etc). They didn't even used to get THOSE.

You sure? No page on paladins that I see in their photos. Table of Contents, Bards, Barbarians, Monk, More Monk, Actions in Combat, Special Attacks, Attacks, Combat, Movement, and Grapple Rules. Nothing on the paladins. If I missed it somewhere, do point out where WotC's verified that rumor.

Well, I laid eyes on a page that showed the mount statistics, something like +10 move and summon for 2 hours/day at 8th level. I am religiously anti-drug, so I don't think I am hallucinating. :) I don't recall where the link I followed was, but it was probably in one of these threads.

As for the poll, I'd have to say the only complaint I'd have would be square facings, because that doesn't fit with a lot of the miniatures I have. However, it DOES fit with the WotC miniatures that they're doing, so that'll work well.

That's all the more reason to hate it: new products will make it harder to ignore, and the rule makes it harder to use your old products (in classic GW fashion!)

They did, according to Masters of the Wild.

Most creatures don't have Water Breathing as an EX ability. It's just assumed. However, some humanoids that can live either in or out of the water do, such as the Sprit Folk from Unapproachable East or the Water Gensai. While a druid is normally unable to shift into those, since Wild Shape uses the same rules as Polymorph, it's an important cavet.

And, while you could make an argument for Scent about the brain not understanding the signals, what about other stuff, like the Cheetah's Sprint? Or an octopus's Ink Jet? Why don't you get *those* abilities in Wildshape form? I hardly think they're broken. It's just dumb.

Anyway, I knew I'd forget *something* big. Apparently it was DR and facing. We ought to have another one of these in a week, once 3.5 is out and we can make better decisions.

I really want to find the person reponsible for coining the term "nerf" and beat him to death with his own shoes.

Really.

I can barely type I am laughing so hard. Can I quote this in my signature?

Uh... as for the whole "nerf" thing... it is, um... entirely *heh* possible that I am responsible for it's use in D&D... or am certainly a large contributer to it's widespread use... Sorry!

As far as the changes in 3e go, I'm mostly quite happy with them. The only ones that irk me are the changes in how DR is handled, and the potential HL abuse from Greater Wounding enhancements (which now inflict 2 pts Con damage per blow). The fact that you can only summon the Paladin's mount 1/day isn't all that great either, but I can live with it.

There are so many to choose from, but if I must choose then it is the new DR. My take on fantasy is that magic weapons always trump materials and the more magical the better. Our fantasy heros never have a golfbag of weapons because thier one special weapon is all they need.
