Alternately, they could have just added 'mount' to the Paladin's spell list. If they had phrased it that way, I'll bet 90% of the complainers wouldn't have blinked an eye.

In fact, an addition to the spell list is the exact house rule that this complainer is going for.

Note that there is tremendous roleplaying potential in this that you wouldn't find in the mount spell, because you get the same horse every time.

We use the variant for summon where that holds true, so it'd be the same either way for us.

But really, my point was that there would have been a lot less objection if this had been a spell (even with the same effects) rather than a class ability - which is really kind of silly/inconsistent, if you think about it, because the same people don't seem to have a problem with the paladin's lay on hands (why don't they just take cure X wounds?) or remove disease abilities.

Hmmm, the only new rule that bothers me is the square facing thing. So, I'll fix it, no big deal. The change to large creatures using larger bases I already do, so as you can see I wasn't all that fond of the old facing rules either.

As for favorite changes, the Ranger and the DR rules changes are at the top of my list. Don't forget that they have supposedly dropped the amount that DR reduces damage by as well as made it material specific. Plus I love having cold iron become useful against the fae.

Actually, that one you might be able to blame on Bruce Cordell. It's been a while since I've read The Illithid .

Nope. Bruce's book on the Mind Flayers of 2nd edition made them essentially a-sexual. New illithids were created by a process called ceremorphes or something like that. A tadpole was inserted into a host and it grew into a mindflayer.

As for what change of 3.5 I don't like, it would be that this is really 4th edition. It seems 3.0 and 3.5 characters will not be able to co-exist.

BTW, a guy on the Kargatane website's forum suggested an intriguing flavour variant: instead of "calling" the mount the Paladin would "transfigure" an ordinary horse in his special mount.
Post-transfiguration, the mount comes with an earpiece and sunglasses.

"I'll be your...horse, for the day...Sirr....Anderson."

It's going to have to wait till I see it to be honest.

I'm a little concerned about a few things.

The lack of any real useful adjustments to sorcerers, particularly in their skills.

I always thought Spell Focus was too weak to begin with, and now it's weaker...

And power Attack? I just don't get that one. Seems like a desire to make melee combatants even more potent at the expense of other options, and I'm not sure I understand the reasons for it.

But we'll see how it all pans out once I can look at the books.

Of course, if my car was a gift from God I wouldn't find it out of line for it to be able to park itself.

"KITT, I need ya, buddy!"

Lets look at a fairly typical paladin character from modern (ish) TV: the Lone Ranger.

I'd have no qualms about giving Michael Knight levels in Paladin.

And Rogue.
