Writers & Artists Needed!

Writers and artists are needed for articles for the upcoming EN5IDER and TRAILSEEKER publications, a pair of online roleplaying game magazines. All work is paid freelance work. If you can write a 2,000 word article or a 5,000 word short adventure, check out the submissions page and contact one of the editors. If you're an artist, the art director is also waiting to hear from you! Each 'magazine' will initially produce one article per week, including one adventure per month and one system-neutral article per month.

The publications themselves won't be launching for a while. The initial focus will be on commissioning an advance stock of high quality completed articles. Click here for the submissions page!

Is there a standard form (or format) for submissions?

I'm going to assume it's the same format as submitting to WotC:

• Put the title of what you're proposing in the subject line
• Keep the description fairly brief, but touch all the important points: level target, setting, objective, villain, etc...
• Make sure that whatever you propose isn't likely to interfere with WotC or Pathfinder publishing guidelines. Since there are none for 5E, use the 4E GSL as a frame of reference. For example, don't create an adventure with monsters that are likely to be restricted due to being brand identity (beholders, mind flayers, githyanki, etc...).
• At least as 5E is concerned: use existing geography and campaign setting locations, places and people sparingly; if you can avoid hard setting it to something like the Forgotten Realms, or avoid using names of major cities or NPCs that everybody knows, it would be best. Setting-neutral adventures are usually preferred since anyone can use them anywhere.

Unless otherwise stated, EN World does not aim to procure the copyright in work, including art (work is not work-for-hire) but does ask for a royalty-free worldwide license for its first use in EN World EN5ider or TRAILseeker and for the creator to refrain from publishing written content elsewhere for a period of one year

Guessing (hoping) that it refers to that specific piece of work that gets published, not any work that you do. So, probably just not written correctly.

Hah! Yeah, it just means that specific article. In other words, you retain ownership of the article, but you grant us a year of exclusivity before you sell it or publish it elsewhere. The contract itself is clear!

The editors will provide specific guidelines, and once we've worked through a few submissions and have the process smoothed out, we'll make that public. But an important aspect is that there will be zero reference to existing IP belonging to companies like WotC. No Forgotten Realms, for example. No characters or places belonging to another company. No trademarks belonging to another company. No copyrighted text belonging to another company. For Pathfinder, the OGL will be used.
