A world formed by the dreams of a sleeping god-mage (Magus Dreams)

Welcome to Daerth, a land created from the dreams and nightmares of a sleeping god-mage. From the ruined keeps of the desolate wastelands to the floating cities that comprise the bastions of magical power, Daerth encompasses ancient kingdoms, evil infested landscapes, dangerous caverns, and meddling deities. The world I have come to refer to as "Magus Dreams" presents a large everchanging fantasy world for infinite adventuring possibilities.

I've created this thread for two reasons....

1. To share this new world that we are creating with the EnWorld community...
2. To allow my fellow conspirator, WallShot, and myself to have a place to lay down our ideas and thoughts on this world...(which will be a melding of both of the world seeds that have been evolving in our thoughts..)

Although this thread is primarily for us two to easily work together on this...but any input and/or criticism from the community is welcome..

General World Notes
- The world itself is actually the physical manifestation of the dreams and nightmares of the sleeping god-mage Darconen.
- Every 100 years a great event known as the Eclipse of the Magi occurs and all magic is stripped from the world for 7-10 days. During this time, all the magical energies form Darconen's avatar and he walks the realms for the duration of the Eclipse. This event is feared by mages and deities alike, as no magic works during this time (other than that of Darconen's Avatar.)

Darconen is the sleeping god-mage mentioned in the prologue.

Just clearing that up. When the Eclipse of the Magi occures, basically all the magic in the world/heavens gets coalesed together to make a body for Darconen. He wanders Daerth for about a week as the only magical being/item/creature/power, then releases the magic back into the world as he drifts off to sleep for another 100 years.

Mages, Wizards, Clerics, Shamans, Heavily enchanted fighters, Dragons and anything else that reliese on magic for might or protection or life fear the Eclipse. They dread the coming and pray for it to end. After Darconen goes back to sleep, it all comes back to normal, but during that time, they are no better than anyone else. That +5 holy avenger is just another longsword.

Enclaves of Daerth

Over the years magic has been developed to a large extent, and there are many Enclaves of Magical might floating about as well...
These Magical Enclaves are large floating cities, usually inhabited by mages and those with magical might. Many of these enclaves perish during the Eclipses as their sustaining magics fail and they plummet to Daerth...some of these Enclaves have developed procedures to actually land themselves and will land during this Eclipses and launch themselves back into the air afterwards...The Mightiest of the Enclaves have developed potent rituals that actually transport the entire Enclave to another plane in order to escape Eclipses and then return after magic has returned to the world...

The most poweful of these Enclaves is the Enclave of Midnight. It is the home of an Order dedicated to the preservation of the balance on Daerth...The Order of Midnight is also the guardians of the Orbs of Balance, powerful artifacts that hold within them negative and positive essence of each of the elements and serve to bind much of the world together... (The Enclave's ritual of transportation shifts them into the demi-plane of shadow.)


Other Notable Enclaves:

The Emerald Enclave : an ancient city of elven might. The enclave is a vast floating forest. (It's transportation ritual takes it to a unique demi-plane created by its Elder High Mage Vepherian Planestar, a powerful Planeshifter.)

Imirius School of the Arcane : a floating school of arcane study. Magelings from all across Daerth seek to be excepted into the this prestiges school of magic. Founded by Caliban Imirius. (This Enclave lands in the center of the city of Necairn.)

Didn't the women who wrote Higher Mythology do this.
This sounds just like two books I read.
The main character never changes no matter what the dream enviroment did.
Ex. Everyone when from beach clothing to sunday school

never read them....

but Magus Dreams isn't that extreme.....basically everything that exists in Daerth was in Darconen's dreaming.... for instance...there was no planet....Darconen dreamt of a paradise planet....then it formed....a hundred years later...he dreamt of dragons...then they formed...and started living on the planet...elves...humans...dwarves...all created from Darconen's dreamings....once created, however, they do whatever they do....for instance...when humans were created..they started doing what humans do...building cities and villages...the primary difference between Daerth and other fantasy worlds is the creation of the world was inadvertant
