They fired up the Large Hadron Collider and the world didn't end?

I thought FOR SURE, today was going to be the day! Of course, they havent' even collided any particles yet, they just warmed up the machine..so there's still hope of a massive black hole opening up and swallering France and Switzerland.

Any of you physics guys have opinions on this?

Today they only turned the collider on. Next month (or later this month) is the actual collision.

They will power it up but it get out of control. Knowing the world is about to end, a lone tech-guy will enter the cylinder. Later he awakes but the world has changed. Now there are immortals and harbingers of many strange and wonderous powers. Worse, the guy has the power of a god but no self confidence and borderline psycho with depression.
