Ultimate Magus Build assistance

Hm, that does beg the question... What happens when you use the Living Spell template on a necromancy spell?

Just a joke of course since those that can get the template would function like any other spell really, but it's still a fun thought.

But yeah, there's a reason I added the line "assuming the DM lets it slide of course." It is a powerful spell.

Feather Fall I can get, but why True Strike? You don't exactly use weapons, and you don't need the bonus for touch attacks.

A few reasons: Unless my DM allows me to use the Fractional Accounting rule from Unearthed Arcana, my ending BAB at level 20 is 9 instead of 10. My Dex is a +2, so even with touch spells, my attack bonus to hit anything is +4 as of right now, which is kind of low, even going for touch attacks. My back-up DM likes to throw high Dex monsters at us a fair amount of the time as well when he takes over when our DM has to work. And... well lets face it... Sometimes it is nice to be guaranteed a hit on anything but a natural 1, especially when you need it to.

... Oh well. I probably can't grasp a situation in which you have such a low BAB. I should play full casters more often.

You might want to consider Beguiler instead of Sorcerer. It just merges better with Wizard, i.e., it's an Int-based spontaneous caster. It also lets you concentrate your Wizard casting on Transmutations more, since Beguilers get lots and lots of Enchantment and Illusion spells, which you don't need to pick as a Wizard then. Beguiler's casting mechanic is strictly superior to Sorcerer, meaning you gain extra versatility, which is the Ultimate Magus's bread and butter. Seriously, go Beguiler!

Don't go for touch attacks. The two rounds you would need to set up your combo could be better spent casting two effective spells.

we have a player that wants to enter the Ultimate Magus using the psionic/magic transparency rule with a Erudite, possible?

Strictly speaking, no. Being a spell casting class does not qualify someone for a psionic prestige class, and vice versa, even under the transparency rule.

However, you could still modify the class to do it, but be aware it'll require some work because of Augmented Casting. You'd be sacking spell slots to power Metapsionic feats, or you'd be sacking Power Points to use Metamagic. The numbers you'll need to remember for that are 1st level powers equal 1 PP, 2nd equal 3, 3rd equal 5, etc. Keep in mind that a good player can break the game with certain metamagic or metapsionic combos, so be wary of them trying it.

High-dex monsters eh? Just cast Grease. Unless the monster has 5 or more ranks in Balance, they're flat-footed while balancing, even if they do make the check. FF = denied Dex to AC.

1 Wizard who thinks he's a ranger. Apparently he has Precise shot as a feat. I know, the shock and horror!

Very useful for Ray and other ranged touch spells.

Personally, I wouldn't specialise, just create LOTS of magic items. Try Wiz 5 / Sor 1 / UM 10 / Wiz +5 / Epic UM thereafter and make your 3rd level feat Create Wondrous Item. So your L4 character would actually be L3 but have oodles of magic like Boots of Running and Levitation; Spectacles of Read Magic, Comprehend (written) Languages, Seeing Invisible, and Gaze Reflection; ESP medallion; and umpteen scrolls.

For either a Beguiler or Sorcerer, or even a Bard build, don't overlook a 1 level dip into Sandshaper (Sandstorm). It adds something like 32 spells to your "Known Spell" list, over the full course, and you only need 1 level to get them all.

Serious scale up for a spontaneous caster.

You need to have six skill ranks in Astrologer, and a Touchstone feat, but after that the spell variety is outstanding.
