The Gang's All Here

The Gang's All Here!

Kasnik spurs his horse into action, running the man down, and stabbing him with his lance;
the tip of the lance strikes a glancing blow, but it is still enough to cause serious injury. The Man in Green cries out in pain, as the lance tip pierces through his hard, leather chest piece, and digs about 2 inches through the flesh of his upper back, ripping through muscle, and scraping against his left shoulder blade. Another couple of inches to the right, and the man would now have a severed spine.

As this is happening, Respen and Vega are walking out of the Jeweler's Shop; their vision is limited, because of the interposing buildings, but what they do see is a rider, who looks to be a knight, riding a barded warhorse, come rushing into view, sticking a fleeing man in the shoulder with his lance. They also hear the shouts of nearby civilians, the sounds of dogs barking, and the sound of a guard yelling, "ALARM! ALARM!"

GM:
Both Respen and Vega walk out of the shop at initiative count 3. They are considered surprised this round, as they take in the sights and sounds of the sudden ruckus that they find themselves in. Vega's Dex is higher (15, compared to Respen's 13) so she will actually act first next round. Neither of you can see your fellow party members; the only two people within your line of sight are the fleeing man, and the knight.

GM: Adjusted Initiative Order:

ROUND TWO:

1. Dewydd (25) [Will arrive in Round 4]
2. Sylvar (24)
3. Gus (20)
4. Lathir (17)
5. Gate Guard (11) [-5 Hit pts, Poisoned.]
6. Man in Green (9) [-13 Hit pts, Deafened.]
7. Kasnik (5)
8. Vega (3a)
9. Respen (3b)

Updated positioning of all persons involved:

[Sylvar: It's your turn. You have line of sight and a clear path, should you choose to charge him. You would end your movement in the square directly above Kasnik, if you choose to do so.]

Sylvar moves into position above the man on the horse who has just skewered the man in the green/blue cloak. He swings his weapon with his blade pointed at the ground. His intention is to strike the man with a non-lethal blow and knock the man out with the side of the blade of the Naginata.

OOC:
Rolled 1d20+2 for a 22 (POSSIBLE CRITICAL HIT!!!)
Rolled 18 for confirmation (IT'S A CRIT!!!)
3d10+3 for 25 points of non-lethal damage

End of Combat Rounds

COMBAT HAS COME TO A CLOSE.

Seeing his opportunity, Sylvar rushes up behind the fleeing man, swinging the massive polearm in an upper-left-to-lower-right diagonal arc, bringing the flat of his blade down SQUARELY on the man's head! The man stumbles forward two steps, and then collapses in a heap, unconscious.

[sblock=WHACK!]

25 Points of Non-Lethal Damge vs. 12 Hit Points: Man will be out for almost 3 hours (2.87 hours, to be exact.)

Lathir, who has returned to human form under concealment of the alley in which he entered, returns to the scene of the commotion, casually walking.

First Post
Kasnik realizing the man has been disabled, speaks firmly in a foreign, but guttural, tongue. Without a single yell of "whoa" or even pulling back on the reins, his large steed quickly comes to a stop, snarling and cocking his head at the downed man and while stamping his hooves into the ground. Staying about 10 feet away, Kasnik keeps his lance firmly pointed at the downed man while his horse slowly circles the man.

OOC: The language he spoke was Sylvan, if you speak it, you will notice the strange accent.

GM:
Also, if you'd like to figure out what the accent is, make a LISTEN check, DC 10. If you succeed, I will look at your sheet, and then send you a message if it matches any of your spoken languages. If you don't speak the language, you can make another LISTEN check, DC 12. If you make it, I will tell you what it "sounds like," but you won't be 100% certain.

Upon reaching Kasnik, you will notice his enormous stature, perfect posture, unflinching nature, gleaming silvery armor, flowing green with silver threaded cloak, and of course his fierce steed. Not a single piece of exposed skin is to be seen on the man and a helmet with a pulled down visor. Upon his shield is a symbol of a unicorn and another unicorn across his chest, forged right into his armor. His white steed is unusually large for a warhorse, completely covered in heavy armor and yet unphased by wearing it, and seems to be trained to the highest standard while still showing its own ferocity.

AFTERMATH

What Happened Next...

In the subsequent moments after the Green Man's collapse, the following events occur:

1. The gate guard rushes up, yelling, "Is he down? Thank you, my lord!"

2. Three or four bystanders gather around, talking about what they saw, and about how they are honored to be in the presence of a champion of Ehlonna, referring to the unicorn emblems on Kasnik's armor.

3. Gus rushes over to the man to give him a good "sniffing." Several bystanders laugh merrily at this. One of them says,
"Better hope he's not hungry, he could swallow this little whelp of a man in one gulp!" (referring to the Man in Green's small stature.) [NOTE: The Man in Green is Human, and probably between 4'11 and 5'1" tall.] You can't tell an exact height while he's crumpled on the ground.

4. Vega and Respen come trotting over, gawking and marveling. Vega says,
"Oh wow, Sylvar laid him out like a slab of bacon."

5. Edward, Paulek, Denby, Dewydd, and Vale arrive on the scene. Edward says,
"Today just keeps getting weirder as the minutes fly!"

With the exception of Karth and Maxwell, who are still 3 blocks away at the inn, the entire party is present, along with everyone else, and their brother, and a few cousins, the kid next door, his uncle, and the farmer from the next town over. [Pun intended.]

While everyone is focused on the man, Lathir collects the reins and calms the man's horse, keeping it in tow and standing off a bit from the center of the commotion.

Sylvar waits for Lathir to bring the horse within range, then casts detect magic, suspecting the man may be in league with Vaelik the assassin.

OOC: Casting detect magic uses the last of Sylvar's 0-level spells for the day

RESULTS OF DETECT MAGIC

RESULTS OF DETECT MAGIC:

Amid the initial excitement of the battle's end, Sylvar casts Detect Magic. Here are the results:

GM:
Sylvar, you need to make several Spellcraft checks if you want to know the exact school of magic for each aura.
After three rounds of concentrating, you discover:

1) Several auras coming from the armored knight in your peripheral vision; you won't know more unless you specifically turn, and start focusing there. [3rd Round]
2) Several auras coming from the gate guard in your peripheral vision. [4th Round]

3) Auras from the man in green: [5th Round]

Short Sword (faint aura) DC 20
Cloak (faint aura) DC 20
Ring #1 (faint aura) DC 20
Ring #2 (faint aura) DC 17
Boots (faint aura) DC 18
Leather Armor (faint aura) DC 20
Belt Pouch (moderate aura) DC 24

(No auras on anything that was on the horse.)

As you are concentrating, the gate guard puts his hand to his head, as if in pain; after a moment, he shakes his head, and shrugs his shoulders. "I'm ok," he says. "Poison was weak. I just feel a bit giddy."

The gate guard motions to Paulek for help. Together, the pick the man up, and drape him over his horse. At that point, they bind the man's hands behind his back.
