~ Koldan almost cut a smile across his slate features, his throat still reverberating in a small chuckle as their other resident Weave-Worker spoke up.

" Good to meet you, Mister Torast," he replied, giving his hand to the man, " Fortunate that I need to get to Waterdeep and just happen across someone who knows the city. Koldan, Koldan Randulfr."

He thought on the journey for a minute, realizing that for the first time in a long time, he was in unfamiliar territory.

" I've ... never actually been that far South, come to think of it."

Attention was turned to the Staff and the Ring, currently the only real leads they had.

" If that staff can locate more of this weapon, I think we'd do well to keep it with us," Koldan surmised, realizing more and more that going alone was quickly becoming 'Not an Option'.

" At the very least, it may slow them down. As for the ring, this 'Vonindod' ... We shouldn't leave this at Triboar. If we pursue the river, we may want to see about leaving it with Yartar: they'd be better able to protect it."

The Ranger thought back to an earlier conversation, nodding slowly to himself.

" Yartar may be a good first stop. There was mention of an inventor there, someone providing tools, weapons, the like. May be worth taking every advantage we can get if we're going to be traipsing the Sword Coast with some Giant's toys." ~

OOC: I am okay with futzing about in Triboar and wherever else we may end up for now; always good with the chance to RP

"I'm Ilshana!" the half-elf said happily, taking a swishy bow/curtsy hybrid move. "And as much as I'd generally love to just jump right into this, I DO think we'd be wise frogs indeed to get a better idea of the whos and whats and wheres before we started! It'd be a poor tale of heroism indeed if we set out on a bold journey, only to have to backtrack and ask for directions because we don't know as much as we thought we did!"

She pauses for a second, then adds, "It wouldn't HURT to see how that rod thing works though, just to get a sense of where the other pieces of the weapon are! Might help us work out what the giants are up to when we get where we're going."

(I'm always good for a bit of futzing! Also fine with jumpskipping. It's all good! Yay!)

~ " Well aren't you the happy one," Koldan chortled in good nature at Ilshana's ecstatic introduction. He adjusted the strap of his crossbow, letting the weight rest more easily on his shoulder. The Half-Elf's reddened hair reminded him of another from some years ago, leading to the Ranger taking a step back, as if in some sort of discomfort.

Regardless, his voice remained even.

" Looks like quite the group we have here. With all this, we might as well settle whatever business we need to in Triboar for now, and then be on our way." ~

OOC:
It's up to you whether we role-play it in detail or, given the constraints of PBP, simply say that before the party leaves in the morning, Gul will visit all the shop owners and prominent towns folk to ask if they need any errands run or know of anything which might help a group of brave, noble adventurers in defending civilization against marauding giants! ;-P

The campground caretaker of the same patch the giants dug the artifact up from, Darz Helgar, has something interesting to add, albeit not giant related.

Darz relates to you that he was recently visited by an old acquaintance, a merchant from Mirabar, with an interesting tale to tell. The erchant saw a dwarf cleaning stables in Xantharl's Keep, a fortified village on the Long Road, and later recognized him from a wanted poster he saw while traveling south through Longsaddle. The merchant is sure that the dwarf he saw is a wanted brigand known as the Weevil; according to
the wanted poster, whoever delivers him alive to the authorities in Mirabar can collect a reward of 5,000 gp.

Darz briefly entertained the idea of going after the Weevil himself, but then admitted to himself that he's too old for such things. Passing this information along to you is his way of thanking them for their help during the attack.

A dwarven smith, Ghelryn Foehammer, who apparently was out and about and missed his golden opportunity to fight some giants seems to think quite highly of those who helped fight off the attack. He is willling to write a letter of recommendation to present to King Morinn or Queen Tithmel should you find yourselves in Citadel Felbarr. He claims to have crafted some magnificent gear for the King himself, and is held in high regard by his people. He'll also provide a 10% discount if someone needs weapons or armor built to their own custom specifications.

~ Koldan's eyebrows perceptively raised at the idea of a good, ol'-fashioned bounty hunt. If the Giants weren't such a greater importance, the Ranger may well have gone after The Weevil himself. He thanked Darz for the information, taking a note down for Xantharl's Keep and to look into this bounty when he was there.

For Ghelryn Foehammer, Koldan thanked him for the offer and indeed was more than happy to received such a letter: He was not sure if their travels would take them to Citadel Fellbar, but hey: having an in with royalty may prove useful. While he didn't quite have the coin to take the dwarf up on his discount, the Hunter nonetheless considered possibly picking himself up a shield or the like for the future: never hurt to have something to hide behind while shooting. But that was future Koldan's issue: for now, he was content to rest in Triboar until his new companions were ready to set out. ~

Gul could see Koldan was interested in what Darz had to say, it seemed like the archer had some experience in tracking down miscreants. He also thanked Darz, but cautioned Koldan that this was third hand information and the Weevil could have been already captured. Still, he mused, that was a sizable reward and they wanted the Weevil taken alive, indicating they wanted to question him..It picqued Guls curiosity, making him wonder what the Weevil was accused of, and what information they wanted from him.

When Ghelryn spoke to the group, Gul thanked him and wondered if he would ever travel as far north as Citadel Felbarr. Even here in Triboar, he could feel the difference in the climate from his native Waterdeep, and wore warm northen clothes over his armor. However, he had never seen a dwarven citadel in person, only hearing stories of their strange underground monarchies.
