Evelyn joins Brother Lantern in looking over the horses.

"Presumably the same goblins ambushed these two. Maybe killed them and dragged their bodies off into the brush" She bites her lip and frowns distractedly as she considers the woods to either side of the trail. "I hope not, though. I'm pretty sure these horses belong ... belonged to our erstwhile employer, Mr. Rockseeker."

She starts circling outwards from the horses, looking for any sign of a trail, or bodies.

It looks like the creatures have been using this place to stage ambushes for some time. A trail hidden behind thickets on the north side of the road leads northwest. Evelyn recognizes that about a dozen goblins have come and gone along the trail, as well as signs of two human-sized bodies being hauled away from the ambush site.

Evelyn dutifully relays what she has found to the rest of the group, and offers her own commentary.

"Well, they weren't walking themselves, but two things big enough to be Mr. Rockseeker and his escort were dragged this way. Also, we should expect more goblins."

Salazar rubbed his chin, “Well hopefully they are still alive, I’m thinking we should try to hide the wagon and try to follow their trail.”

“I don’t like their chances as it is, and I think they will be a lot lower if we go to town and then try to find them.”

GM: I may assume that the party will take certain actions to speed up the game. Generally, If I post soemthing and your character would have objected, pipe up and I'll undo the post.

There is a clearing beyond a small rise where you tie off the oxen and can conceal them and the wagon from the road.

GM: Assuming you follow the trail, could I have a marching order? The trail is narrow enough that any more than single file will require hacking away brush for most of it, leading to survival checks and Con saves to ward off exhaustion.

Roy retrieves his hand crossbow & tosses the riding gear from the two dead horses in the wagon.

Is there any idea of how long the horses have been dead & Rockseer's been missing?
How far out from town we are?
Because Roys' thoughts on the matter are that Rockseer & his escort are already dead. They were dumb enough to ride off alone through bandit controlled territory. And they'll stillbe dead if we take the time to drop the oxen & wagon off in town and circle back. No reason to throw two good oxen & a wagon away to whatever else - goblins, bandits, a dragon(?) - is lurking around here....

"But whatever. If you all want to hide 'em off the trail, in this clearing the monsters obviously don't know about, then I got 5sp says we come back & find them eaten/missing."
"Well, c'mon, let's go find Rockseer."

Despite Roy's objections, you all set off down the trail. About 10 minutes down the trail, Lupin sees signs of a hunting snare. The party easily avoids this, and your suspicions raised, you find several more traps further down the trail.

Following the goblins' trail, you come across a large cave in a hillside five miles from the scene of the ambush. A shallow
stream flows out of the cave mouth, which is screened by dense briar thickets. A narrow dry path leads into the cave on
the right-hand side of the stream. You are on the left side, but you could easily cross.
