I suggest you keep playing with your friends and take a more laid back approach (or don't play with them)--but you NEED to find a group that matches your idea of a 'good time'.
I like the idea of finding a new group of OSR type fans who will enjoy Thracia and engage with it properly, while running a silly/light game for your friends, if you will enjoy that.
