I like dragons, but i dislike them as a D&D monster because they are always badly used in actual play. By lore and stats Dragons, even young dragons, are smarter than the average human, some are smarter than high level wizards. They are supposed to be cunning, wise, and powerful. Yet 90+% of the time in games, the DM uses NO tactics, the Dragon will never talk things out, bargin, or bribe/be bribed. Even when battle starts to go badly and they are clearly losing them won't even try to surrender. Apparently all dragons are Death Berserkers? Basically we've lowered what should be the closest thing to a living god in all settings to a very large goblin with lots of hit points and fire breath. Go go dragons.1
