Does stat-enhancing items grant bonus spells per day?

Is there difference between Int/Wis/Cha increase from items and from spells (either permanent or just long-lasting)?

Is there difference between an enhancement bonus to them or another type of bonus?

Is there difference between 3.0 and 3.5 on this subject?

:)

Hi!

Just a short reply: from Main 3.5 FAQ, June 2004]

Do ability enhancing items (such as the headband of
intellect, cloak of charisma, and periapt of wisdom) grant
bonus spells to the appropriate spellcasters? The spells
these items are based on would seem to prohibit it, but the
only things specifically addressed in the item descriptions
are skill points.

Yes, you can get extra bonus spells if you have an item that
increases the ability score that governs your spellcasting. To
get the extra bonus spells, you must wear the item while resting
to regain spells and all through your initial daily preparations
for spellcasting. (Even characters who don’t prepare spells need
to meditate a little while at the beginning of the day; see Daily
Readying of spells under the Sorcerers and bards section of
Chapter 10 in the Player’s Handbook.)
If you lose the item, you immediately lose the bonus spell
slots the item gave you, starting with any uncast spells you
have of the appropriate levels.

Kind regards

The spells specifically say that you don't get extra spells from their enhancement.

e.g. Eagles Splendour

The transmuted creature becomes more poised, articulate, and personally forceful. The spell grants a +4 enhancement bonus to Charisma, adding the usual benefits to Charisma-based skill checks and other uses of the Charisma modifier. Sorcerers and bards (and other spellcasters who rely on Charisma) affected by this spell do not gain any additional bonus spells for the increased Charisma, but the save DCs for spells they cast while under this spell’s effect do increase.

The spells, being temporary, don't grant extra spells per day. Items, however, do.

That used to be the case in 3e, and a wizard who extended a spell so that it lasted 24hrs+ could get the extra spells.

In 3.5e they don't say "it doesn't work because it is a temporary enhancement", they flat out say it doesn't give that benefit

According to the 3.5 FAQ, stat boost items do grant bonus spells per day. The FAQ is found on WotC's website, but the exact link eludes me at this moment.

Where do you get that idea?

Fox's Cunning, Tome and Blood, states: "Wizards who receive fox's cunning do not gain extra spells, but the save DCs for their spells increase."

No mention of it being because of duration. "do not gain".

They first appeared in FR, before T&B. They did not have this text in FR and common sense said that if you have the benefit for 24hrs you could have the extra spells.

Cheers
