Werelion stats

James McMurray

First Post
Anyone know where I can get stats for were-lions. I could probably just modify weretiger to give 2 less strength and con but 2 more dex (the difference in the animals themselves) but I'd like to find an official or semi-official source.

Thanks!

I did a werelion, but I never finished the skill section, because I didnt understand how it worked.

I was using the weretiger as a base and I couldn't figure out how the weretiger's skills added up.

Class skills for a werelion are Listen, Move Silently, and Spot. You could probably add Balance and Hide in, but those are both running off of stats and racial bonuses, and have no skill points invested.

It's ECL 8, with 5 HD and +3 LA (+2 if afflicted).

Stat mods for the hybrid and animal forms are:

Str: +10
Dex: +6
Con: +4 (already factored into HP, but it changes the Fort Save)

Otherwise, same as weretiger, just doing a search-and-replace on "tiger" with "lion."

Personally, I'd much rather do a werecheetah, wereleopard, or were-riding dog. You can still wear your armor in hybrid form, after all, even if you have to take it off and put it back on again, and have lower ECLs.

Edit: Alignment will almost certainly be lawful good.

Werelions in humanoid form have no distinguishing traits.

Combat
In lion form, a werelion can pounce and rake just as a normal lion does. A werelion in hybrid form usually dispenses with weapon attacks, though it can wield a weapon and use its bite as a secondary natural attack.

Alternate Form (Su)
A werelion can assume a bipedal hybrid form or the form of a lion.

Curse of Lycanthropy (Su)
Any humanoid or giant hit by a werelion’s bite attack in animal or hybrid form must succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or contract lycanthropy.

Improved Grab (Ex)
To use this ability, a werelion in lion form must hit with a claw or bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can rake.

Pounce (Ex)
If a werelion in lion form charges an opponent, it can make a full attack, including two rake attacks.

Rake (Ex)
Attack bonus +7 melee, damage 1d4+2.

Lion Empathy (Ex)
Communicate with lions and dire lions, and +4 racial bonus on Charisma-based checks against lions and dire lions.

Skills
In any form, weretigers have a +4 bonus on Balance, Hide, and Move Silently checks. *In areas of tall grass or heavy undergrowth, the Hide bonus improves to +12 in the lion form.

The werelion presented here is a 1st-level human warrior and natural lycanthrope, using the following base ability scores: Str 13, Dex 11, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 8.

The alignment could easily be Lawful Good instead of Lawful Evil.

Any reason why you decided on Lawful Evil, especially in light of the fact that the Monster Manual Lycanthrope entry specifically mentions Lions as an example of something that would make a good aligned Lycanthrope?

for my campaign world, but it could be anything. It's not that important to me.

I am more curious if I calculated the skills, etc correctly.
