Yesterday's contest has been a great success, and I had a lot of fun with it. Congratulations to Argent Silvermage for winning a copy of the book.

Today's Contest is the same as the last one,
which can be found here:

The complete rules are found below:

For those who weren't on the boards yesterday, the contest works like this: I post a querstion, you answer it any way you like, in at least one sentence. If your post corresponds to a number I've rolled on a d20 you win copy of the book. Morrus has offered to verify the winning numbers in the case of a dispute. So let's get started... The only change to the rules is that instead of waiting until Monday to find out if you've won, I'll announce the winner after the thread is done. Remember, one entry per person (only the first post counts, but feel free to post followups), and my posts don't count towards the total.

The Canticle of the Morning Star speaks of the destruction of the world, in a multitude of ways. Each time it is thwarted, it adapts. Verses restructure themselves in the unholy texts, and a new route to destruction is plotted. Though the Nine Empires are at the height of their power, and Heroes stand at the apex of glory, many have begun to sense that this is a battle that may not be won...

Therefore, the second Question (in two parts) is: "Can we fight destiny? Wouldn't it be best to accept the inevitable, hoping to soften the blow?"

You can't fight destiny because it doesn't exist. Don't drift through life on a raft, pick up a paddle and steer. Free will, baby!

Destiny does not exist.

I had a huge arguement with my 9th grade English teacher over destiny. She told the class that it did exist and that everything was already planned out. I asked her to just give me the B+ I was destined to get, so I could skip the class, and she threatened me with detention. I tried to use reason with her, but she would have none of it. Guess what? End of the year, B+.

Fight the Future

Destiny can be fought and should be fought. If the canticle can be defeated, as it has been in the past, then it shows that destiny is not written in stone. Eventually everything dies, it's the way of entropy, but there's nothing wrong with fighting an ultimately "losing" battle if you push off that conclusion for 10 generations or just a day.

Nope, you can't fight destiny. However, you can't know destiny either, so it can never be used as an excuse to give up. Keep up the good fight!
