The building actually looks decent on the inside, excepting the occasional hole in the wall from fighting. Red booted dwarves, along with a few other races in red boots go about their business throughout the two story facility. Ribeye leads you through the lower room to a set of stairs, talking as he walks, Don'cha call me short, scaly, and there are more'n dwarves in da Red Boots. He stops short of the stairway, where a very large dwarf (or maybe a short bearded ogre?) stands guard.

The moment allows the party to take in the room, there was apparently a fire here at some point, but repairs seem to be all but completed. A large dog sleeps at the bottom of the stairs, several large ham bones chewed to shreds around his bed.

The stairwell guard steps out of Ribeye's way, allowing the party access to the upstairs. The second floor is clean and organized, almost all signs of the fire are cleaned away. The Red Boots on this floor are of a more serious demeanor than the jovial fellows bellow. Crossbowmen and Archers line the windows, eyes focused on the outside world. A larger dwarf in well-oiled armor approaches the party, a muscled hand available to anyone who will shake it. Hey there! Names Kargyll, Kargyll Redboot, your the folks the temple hired to handle that shadow creature they let escape?

Only one person in the room isn't wearing red boots, other than the party, a half-elf, leaning against a support beam.

A World In Your Ear

Ibram Gaunt leans against the support-beam, spinning his full-blade with his right hand in perfect off-time rhythm to the *tink*, *tink*, *tink* of a smith's hammer and anvil. He fiddles with the straps around his waist with his left hand where there is little to display but for a knife, some belt pouches, and an old, rather beaten-looking brown harp. The half-elf stares curiously at the newcomers; clearly they've seen better days.

"What an odd bunch," Ibram muses to himself, "quite the disjointed lot then, aren't they? Achh. I s'pose they'll do."

Ibram steps gingerly over a large, fallen stone in his path, expertly spinning his blade to the sheathe strapped to his back. His fingers gently plucking a few furtive notes as he strides with a wry grin on his face to meet these lovely new companions.

"Well look at the size 'o you! Great bloody l'il feller ain't ye? Names Gaunt, Ibram Gaunt, but Gaunt'll do fer now. Pleased to be makin' yer aquaintance."

Ibram Gaunt approaches each new face in turn with a comforting smile and open hand. He shakes Aurak's clawed hand first.

"Easy wit' the grip mate! I bet ye could pull the arm off an ogre wit' that shake!"

OOC: Hey all, good to be here. First time playing, so just getting the hang of it. Nice to meet you all, I'll be your bard for the adventure =). If you could please, at some point just post your name, class and race for me so I don't get anyone confused. Thanks!

"Greetings, Kargyll, my name is Cyr Iannes. We were just telling your good dwarf overthere that we're here to restore your normal traffic."
He shakes his hand firmly and then looks at the half-elf

Welcome to adventure.

Cyr is deva invoker. You can find more about all of us by following links from first post of this thread. Of course, you shouldn't act on that knowledge since IC you don't know it.

The heavily armored dragonborn stares at the newcomers, and does his best to study their features for any deceptions or hint of ambush, but seeing none his muscles relax.

Hearing the dwarf's words, Aurak asks "Wait... you say a shadow creature escaped? Have you seen it?" anxiously

Aurak - dragonborn paladin here

Passive Insight is 12, assuming that wouldn't be enough even if they are lying.

"Hey, Kargyll, name's Rocco. Did you see two shadar-kai along with the shadow?"

[sblock=Dwarven]
"It's not like he was not provoked, but your cronie over there really could learn to watch his language. You may be in charge here, but you're having trouble and need help."

"What can you tell us?"

Excellent, says Kargyll, full of good cheer, Keeping the Commons clean and safe isn't a cheap venture.

Kargyll extends his hand to Aurak, Not myself personally, our brother organization, the Poe Eyez. Buncha orphaned kids we take care of, they keep watch on the streets, no one pays attention to them. They pay attention to everything, curious little ones. Reported the shadow monster, and this fella, Kargyll motions towards Ibram.

"Hey, Kargyll, name's Rocco. Did you see two shadar-kai along with the shadow?"

"What can you tell us?"

Kargyll gives a sly glance toward Ribeye, [sblock=Insight 15] The kind of look that says, "he doesn't know you speak our language". [/sblock] Eyez said there was three people moving with the creature, not two.

Kargyll said the rest in a broken mix of Dwarven and Allarian. Temple Lauto [sblock=Dwarven]suffers water erosion at the foundation, not the [/sblock]Red Boots[sblock=Dwarven] Be aware, the [/sblock] Red Boots [sblock=Dwarven]haven't underestimated your motley crew, [/sblock]Temple Lauto contractors have been guests of our hall before, on a number of occasions. They always seem to get the job done. The last he says all in Allarian.

Actually the Eyez said there was three folks moving with the shadow. They said this guy paid an inordinate sum for the information, so I sent him an "invite". says Kargyll with a wink to Ibram. Said he was looking for a tale.

Kargyll tosses a small pouch to Ibram, That's your money back, less the gold for the information. Ribeye steps out from in front of the stairs, signaling the party is free to leave at their leisure.

[sblock=Insight 17]
The crossbowmen and archers have been watching the party in shifts, it's subtle, but the Red Boots are on high guard over the party. Even the stairwell guard is paying more attention to you than his post.

[sblock=Insight 25]
Every Red Boot in the building has been keeping at least one hand close to a weapon.

modest, The small bag tossed to Ibram has 40 gold in it.

Neurotic, Rocco remembers odd tracks, going in the opposite direction of the Red Boots, heading off toward the woods.

[sblock=Skill Challenge]

Skill Challenge; Find the disk of Obolus, or Learning Lauto's loss.

2 Success
0 Fail out of 3

This challenge is completed in stages, once you reach a threshold of success, you'll be rewarded. Failing at any point will end the skill challenge and the party will receive only the rewards they earned up to the point of failing.

Rewards will be revealed after the completion of the challenge, either by success or failure. (That doesn't mean that rewards won't be given during the challenge...)

+2 to the next skill check toward tracking the disc.

[sblock=Just quipping OOC] Rocco is aware that Ribeye probably understands him being a dwarf, he doesn't want others of the party to understand, especially dragonborn, since at least one seems to try causing trouble :)

Rocco's view :)

OOC: I assume you meant me CaBaNa and not Alissa.

Silphyus gave a short bow to the half elf as a greeting, his hands still sheathed in cold light and dancing shade.

"A pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Mr. Redboot, and the same to you Mr. Gaunt. I am Silphyus, traveling scholar and collector of esoteric lore."

Silphyus glances around at the various guards nervously. He made a mental note to learn Dwarven at some point.

"I don't suppose the Poe Eyez told you what these people looked like, did they Mr. Redboot? Or perhaps this shadow creature?"

OOC: I'm not sure what skills might be useful for tracking down the Obolus, but I'll make a Detect Magic check to see if I can pick up some sort of residue or some such thing. At the very least I might be able to tell if the Redboots are using sort of magic.

Arcana (detect magic) (1d20+8=16)

modest: I'm playing Silphyus, a deva warlock. Welcome aboard and thanks!

"There are tracks outside, leading away. Unless it's your boys that have reason to go out, it's our prey. Speak quickly and let us follow!"
