WTH, there was a D&D adventure based on the film "The Keep"?

I was looking up wiki, because I have rare 2 CD edition of "Krull" soundtrack which I adore, and that led me to read up on another even rarer soundtrack that I don't have "The Keep"
80s flicks = bloody awesome music! Add in "Manhunter" and you have 3 outstanding soundtracks IMHO and very good for D&D game sessions ;)
though "Manhunter" is more "Planescape" hehe

Now, I loved the book the film was made from and HEARTILY recommend it to DMs to creep the hell out of their players with  Oh if you want an "apocalpyse" sotry for reading and D&D ideas, try F. Paul Wilson's "Night World" damn that is soooo creepy...guy in sewers..."Daddy!"...*barf!*
and the first half of the Keep film version is FANTASTIC, but the end they screwed up by leaving out the freakin' director's finale', and not explaining the history of the 2 main characters, doh
anyway the music was awesome but only released on crazy limited amount by Tangerine Dream
So reading up on all this I noticed...this very interesting item:

What the hell?! they made a D&D adventure out of it?! GIMMIE!! :p

Alas that site is down and Wayback Machine isn't working right or such, so can't retrieve it, sigh.

Does anyone know about this? it's not merely a mistake reffering to "Keep on the Borderlands" or such? :) Wasn't there a TSR Uk adventure "The Keep" (like "The Gauntlet" ?)
can't find any info on such an adventure. That was around the time TSR did the "Conan" adventures for AD&D so it seems plausible they released The Keep (film/novel) version adventure??

Damn. That's the address to the TSR Archive. It's down? Why is it down? That was one of the best sites on the net. Had information on every module TSR published.

Anyway, that link is pointing to FA2 Nightmare Keep.

Here's a review:
[Review] FA2 Nightmare Keep

Is it really based on the movie, I don't know. Haven't seen the movie. But if the wikipedia article says so..

Looks like it's for sale from some amazon sellers. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Role-Advanced-Dungeons-Dragons/dp/0912771135]Amazon.com: The Keep (Role Aids/Advanced Dungeons and Dragons) (9780912771137): Daniel Greenberg, Samuel Shirley…[/ame]

The movie... not a good adaptation. However the book (really -anything- by F. Paul Wilson) is amazingly good. I'm looking forward to his rewrite of Nightworld a few books down the line. :)

Yes. There is a D&D adventure based on The Keep, but it isn't Nightmare Keep.

Got it right here.:)

It's not a truly memorable adventure, but I like it. I haven't opened this for a very long time, but I do remember the memorable undead that coughed up poisonous zyklon gas.

no, the film was butchered in the editing room, apparently, which is believable when watching it as soem bits are so disjointed/info missing etc:/
all the characters, settings are perfect IMHO, just shoddy job of editing by idiot studio apparently as they didn't like Michael Mann's version and there's been bad blood ever since.

IMHO, it could have done with a better use of the soundtrack, or entirely different one, bit when the professor leaves the cave carrying the relic is awesome, other bits jar
we cna't tell whether it's the music or what cause the film as said was chopped to hell by the studio in arrogance rather than letting the director sort it as he wished :(
dearly love to see a Directors Cut DVD!

can't stand all these stupid or perverse slasher torture/p*rn flicks of late: garbage, ugly and dumb, NOT scary.
The Keep is really scary. Rasalom is seductive brilliance and utterly evil, to be more evil than the SS Einzatskommando, you gotta be more than a wee bit "on the wrong side of the tracks", ya know?

and agree with you, Wilson is AWESOME, a must read for DMs for ideas...I adore "Repairman Jack" as a character, lol, fit right into Waterdeep or Luskan, so he would
the things he faces, and the general way Wilson does supernatural evil as being as bloody scary as it would be, is great

thanks folks, much appreciated! :)
awesome all the cool stuff that's been made for D&D!

hehe my fave was filling zombies with smokepowder and nails....go on, crit that one!! muhaha! ;)

Some of the most disturbing moments I've read in a long time are the scenes with Bill Ryan and the fate of that orphan kid in Reprisal. I actually had to put the book down and walk away for a bit. Wilson does supernatural Evil in a way that really does it justice, and which makes him one of my favorite writers. :)

Damn! You scared the hell out of me. I love that site also, but you're right - it is down.

However, I did a little searching and found an alternate address. Apparently it was moved to some other archive.

Here you go: TSR Archive

Yeah, to sneak in a plug for one of my favorite writers, F. Paul Wilson's stuff is GREAT fun. The Keep may be set on Earth during WWII, but it and the whole mythos surrounding what's going on in there (which is a common theme throughout most of Wilson's novels, actually, and is all part of something he calls the "Adversary Cycle") has been a huge influence on my gaming over the years.

The movie is, as folks have mentioned, very disappointing but not without its moments.

The RoleAids adventure, to get back on track, is really weird and unusual. You can find it now and then in used stores or on Ebay or at Gen Con; I got my copy from a friend who knew I had been looking for it for a long time, so I lucked out. The adventure itself (no spoilers) is not one that would fit all that well into most ongoing campaigns, but even at a slim 32 pages or thereabouts it could easily become its OWN major campaign.
