Cancellation of Heroscape

Argh! I've heard nothing but good things abot it, and I think the figures are fun looking. If I had the cash I would buy one of everything, right now.
This has been discussed at length, but I don't remember what was said... are the miniatures from Hersocape usable for D&D?

The medium-sized minis from the master set and Wave D1 have bases that is slightly too large for Dungeon Tiles. The minis from Wave D2 and the upcoming Wave D3 are smaller and fits perfectly.

Sadness

The game died, Hasbro moved it to WotC to see if maybe they could save it, and they couldn't. This is probably another casualty of the same problem that hit all of the pre-painted minis people -- costs have gone way up, and the companies are having a hard time selling people a more expensive product in this economy. Sucks, but what are you going to do?

"Boss! People are buying inexpensive terrain and getting non-random minis that exactly suit what they need at the time!"

"I can fix that."

...

Actually...this may have been part of the problem...

One complaint I've always heard rumoured about Heroscape was that the non-random nature of the product meant that the big box stores had to carry MULTIPLE skus of the product and had to track each individual sku....

Apparently, this was too much of a headache and not worth the time given the low margins on the product that said big box stores got back....

My dear Nikosandros, *anything* is useful for D&D. The rust monster and umber hulk were based on some cheap plastic toys, and I think we all have an inkling what the original Modron minis looked like.

That having been said, the standard hero scape bases look a little more than an inch. If it became an issue, I don't see any reason they couldn't be rebased.

But it's about to get a lot cheaper to buy remnants of DDM than complete Heroscape packs.

Somehow I doubt this was any more involved than carrying a line of action figures - such as Star Wars, GI Joe or the like.
