Now, if only Ms. Gellar and Mr. Snipes didn't take themselves too seriously, they could have some deep serious comedy going on here....

Maybe they could have Joss Whedon write something up in response?

They already have this video out there as well, which is not bad for a fan putting it together:

I'm no Twilight fan but this one of the dumbest things I've seen on the internet. Why do fan bases need to hate other fan bases? Do people really care what other like?

You're really asking this question? Around here we all love D&D, but people still care which particular edition you like.

In Twilight's case, there's an issue that they are presenting what many would call a model of abusive relationships as good, appropriate, and even desirable, in a work that is intended to be YA fiction.

I don't care what a 30-year-old reads. As an adult, like what you like.

I do care a bit what is popularized among 14 year olds. Not so much that I'd call for a banning of a book, but I also have nothing against recognized folks standing up and pointing out the flaws.

In this case, its trying to close the barn door after the horse has run, but you can't control when the opportunity for the pointed comedic jibe will come up.

Right, but this isn't about what version of Star Trek is better. This is about sci fi fans hating romance fans. It's two different genres and two really different fan bases. It's like having the Harry Potter fans hate the Samuel Spade.

Also, it's one thing for the fans to do it its another for someone in the art to do so. Monte Cook isn't leading a charge of D&D gamers against the GURPs players.

I think George Takei is actually on the same side as you. He wants to see fans of Star Wars and Star Trek unite.

For Takei, the anti-Twilight thing isn't just a my-preferred-form-of-entertainment-is-better-than-yours thing. It's about how women are portrayed in media, and the messages that children are exposed to. Takei has made a number of public comments about Twilight because he honestly believes that it sends horrible messages to today's youth and represents a major step backwards in gender equality. FWIW, I agree with him.

Edit: Ninja's by Umbran.

Takei's message may also be helpful to parents. It's impossible to read everything your kids read, and the subtler dangers are easy to miss.

Yes, Twilight is a romance, but it's also fantasy (it has vampires & werewolves in it) and is not in the "romance" section of bookstores. The Barnes & Noble nearest to me has it under a "Teen Paranormal Romance" section, instead of the regular Romance section or the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section.

So, it's not as different from Sci-Fi/Fantasy as Sam Spade, IMHO.
