I just came from margaretweis.com and, if one scrolls down there is a picture that says "Shiny", "I will be in my bunk" and 2013.

Firefly or Serenity?

Seems likely.

One the one hand, I'm surprised: so many years after the show ended, and given the fairly lacklustre film, I'm a little surprised there's still a market for a Firefly RPG.

On the other hand, I'll certainly pick up a copy (as it's one of our go-to games for one-shots). So I guess that's my answer right there. :)

I really doubt it. If they are MWP is scraping the bottom of the barrel; Serenity was eight years ago and they already had that license - and I don't see where the Cortex+ angle is needed for Firefly. The only reason I could see it happening is that Firefly's a good match for a drama system and the currently licensed Cortex + Drama system (Smallville) is coming to an end.

(To echo myself on rpg.net)

Read this on Beasts of War a little while ago and forgot to post it here. http://www.beastsofwar.com/board-games/firefly-coming-tabletop/

If, like me, you yearn for the days when Firefly was on television and still feel like it should return then you might be pleased to know that ToyVault have received the license to create toys and games based on its universe…

“Currently celebrating the tenth anniversary since its premiere on Fox, “Firefly” has maintained a strong position in the hearts of science-fiction fans all over the world. Starring Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm Reynolds with a ragtag crew aboard the spaceship Serenity, “Firefly” is best known for its unique spin on classic sci-fi tropes, witty dialogue and memorable characters, courtesy of beloved creator Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers).

In the months to follow, Toy Vault plans to launch multiple table-top games, decorative pillows, a line of collectable mini-plushes of the entire Serenity crew, and more.
“Licensing ‘Firefly’ is a dream come true for all of us here at Toy Vault,” says Project Director, Zac Pensol. “We’re all great fans of the show and are committed to creating products that fans will think are absolutely… well… shiny!”“The ‘Firefly’ fans are loyal to the franchise and this line from Toy Vault will certainly give them something to cheer about,” said Jeffrey Godsick, President of Fox Consumer Products.”

Now of course this doesn’t mean we will certainly be getting a board game but ‘multiple tabletop games’ does sound very promising. The role-playing game is still a big hit and of course the universe of Firefly and Serenity is pretty fantastic. We can only hope this proves to be a great year for Firefly fans. You can check out a Forum Post about it right here on Beasts of War..

No, that's not shiny. That's *sparkly*. Big difference.
The same scale of 'Big' difference to the outsider/unaware/unconcerned as there is between D&D/D20/Pathfinder/C&C/DCC/T&T/CoC/RQ/WFRP/TOR/True20/Conan/Traveller/Fantasy and SF RPGs in general...? Just asking as I'm not clear on how we might draw those boundary lines....

Yes there is. It's shiny and has something to do with sex. The new licensed setting is... Twilight.

Sorry, my initial assumption was that you were familiar with FIREFLY/SERENITY, since you jumped to an immediate, definitive conclusion. Both "I'll be in my bunk" and "Shiny" are oft-repeated quotes from FIREFLY. As recognizable to folks who are familiar with that show as if the the two quotes were "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" and "May the force be with you." Or "Live long and prosper" and "Beam me up, Scotty." Or "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" and "RAWR!"

(Okay, maybe that last one is stretching it.)
