No, it's not. Go and ask Ed.

I understand you are upset. I didn't have any involvement with making the maps. I'm just trying to make sense of things. The artist has admitted to the Silvermoon/Silverymoon mistake, but not others. What is your explanation for this?

Have you asked Ed Greenwood about Felbarr/Felbar recently? What has he said? Can you post it here for those of us who are interested, but aren't so interested as to seek out those kinds of answers?

Upset? No, mate. But I can understand from re-reading my post than you might have thought a fanboy was having a moment.... ;) Sorry, I don't have anything I can post publicly. Give me a few days and I will see what I can quote here. (There is a bit of sensitivity that the first FR map for the new edition had these errors, especially when it includes a major city like Silverymoon.)

Anyway, I still really like the map and plan to use it. And I have a fantastic map by Mike Schley for the area around SilverYmoon and FelbarR so it doesn't really affect my game. It's also not the first FR map to have spelling errors on it.

Yeah, that may have crossed my mind. :D

I can understand. And I'll look forward to an info you can post.

And, like you said, it's hardly the first map with errors. It's still frustrating when the map is otherwise quite nice.

Actually Ed's novels are NOT always cannon regardless of his wanting to be or not. WotC deviates from them constantly. Ed is a novelist first and setting designer second. So do not use the novels as a guide to whether or not something is in the setting or not.

I agree. Ed's novels are not a big gun. They are, however, canon as are the other novels. Oh, and he was a published setting designer much earlier than he was a published novelist.

However, I am not referring to Ed's novels - I don't read them - but to his posts on Candlekeep which, according to the contract between him and TSR (and now WotC) deems his statements there to be Realms canon unless and until specifically overridden by another published work.

These spelling errors are simply spelling errors. Unfortunately, the nature of internet communication makes it difficult to communicate that fact without it being seen as some sort of pettifogging pedantry or rabid fanboy-ism rather than what it really is: a simple statement that the errors exist.

But, as I also have stated, it doesn't actually bother me or impact my games.
