D&D 5E Random Table of Weapons? Random Table of Armor?

Hi,

Do you have a good table to randomize which exact weapon you find when an adventure merely says "you find a +1 weapon"? Same with armor.

I am specifically looking for tables that try to reproduce the frequencies of actual treasure in published modules.

That is, tables where longswords are more common than glaives, for instance.

Thanks.

The DMG says things like "If a magic weapon doesn't specify its weapon type, you may choose the type or determine it randomly" and "If a magic armor doesn't specify its armor type, you may choose the type or determine it randomly." Also, ammunition.

Okay, so I want to "determine randomly".

Only I don't want to count the number of weapons in the PHB (38, I believe) and then roll 1d38, making it equally likely to end up with a +1 Club and a +1 Net. That feels daft.

Didn't the playtest rules at one point attempt to categorize weapons into common, uncommon etc?

You could set it up like the DMG random encounter charts: 1d12+1d8. In the case of the weapons, do two lists and determine which to use by rolling 1d2.

1d12+1d8 is nice because it has a fairly wide plateau in the center of its bell curve. And also because it has 19 results, which accounts for half the weapons.

There used to be random weapon and armour tables in earlier DnD editions I believe... yep just checked my 3rd edition DMG - it has random armour and weapon tables you could use. So that is probably available in the SRD online.

Nice, doing this now.

HOWEVER- there are only 38 if you count "unarmed strike", so I'm including "Other exotic" on my list to round things out.

I'll post them here once I'm done. :)

You know that table won't be complete if you don't include "unarmed strike".

ROFLMAO at the idea of finding a +1 unarmed strike in a treasure hoard.

CAVEAT: I'm not sure how this matches up to published adventures, but it works well enough for me. Also, apologies for the crappy formatting.

RANDOM WEAPON DETERMINATION

When characters discover a random magical weapon, the DM can use the following charts to determine exactly what type of weapon it is. In other cases, a weapon might specify that it is a sword, axe, any melee or any ranged. Specific charts follow for axes, swords, and ranged weapons; if it is “any melee”, roll on the Random Weapon (Any) charts and simply re-roll ranged weapons.

RANDOM WEAPON (Any)

First, determine which of the following charts to roll upon (50% chance of either). Then, roll 1d12+1d8 to determine the specific weapon involved.

2 Club --- 2 Blowgun

There's room for a magical unarmed option. Wraps, gauntlet, gloves. Something to help the druid or monk keep up.

Sure- an amulet of mighty fists or whatever. But I don't define that as a magical weapon, but rather as a wondrous item/ring/whatever.
