D&D 5E Wanting more content doesn't always equate to wanting tons of splat options so please stop.

...they should know by now that most DM's still do not allow fan created material.
Does not match to my experience, either in person, as a DM myself, or in communication with other DMs online.

Do you have a source for your information that I should consider more likely to be correct than my self and my own experience?

That's unfortunate. And like most things in life, perspective can have a huge impact on your contentment. Or lack thereof.

I am failing to grok this one. Can you please rephrase?

AL is not D&D. And D&D is not AL. If AL is your focus, there is a dedicated subforum here better suited to your concerns.

Please present evidence to support this claim. Thanks.

Alot of DMS don't know about the guild here.

DM nor allowing 3rd party is common in my experience same with homebred. DM's might homebred and let you use it.

I will look at 3pp and yay or nay it. If it's underpowered, overpowered or doesn't fit the theme it's out.

They actively promote adventures which can't go wrong unless the writing is really bad. I've yet to seem them promote actual game mechanical options.

So you think that they only support certain material, and think that the distinction will be immediately obvious enough so that folks will know which options are safe and which are unendorsed garbage?

Or do you think maybe it's more likely that actively promoting some of the material would be seen by an endorsement of the idea in general?

No. I see it as a place that WoTc feels can take some of the heat off them to create more content. I don't think they are dumb to think that magically fan crafted material suddenly becomes accepted. If they allowed the stuff in AL then I would agree, but even they should know by now that most DM's still do not allow fan created material.

If that were the case, they'd have stuck with the OGL. But what they did, was put out special licensing allowing you to use almost everything D&D has ever used. If that alone wasn't a strong message saying "We WANT the community to create fan content", then them also highlighting DMs Guild products once a month certainly is explicit endorsement. And for the cherry on top, we even have statements from Mearls and Crawford telling us what the purpose of the DM's Guild is for.

So yeah, I have no idea why you would come away with the conclusion that it's not a place endorsed by WoTC. They literally told us it is.

But on to the basic premise here. I don't get this. Fan made stuff has been around forever, and what is wrong with it?

It's generally not balanced or very good. That's what's wrong with it. 3e proved that in spades. I have neither the time, nor inclination to spend hours pouring through a 3rd party product BEFORE I buy it(if I even can) in order to see if it's both good and not terribly overbalanced. I also can't really rely on reviews, because tastes vary so much and often people behind products get friends to say how great it is, even when it isn't.

That's probably why the OP wanted that stuff excluded.

Do you not see DM's Guild as a de facto acceptance and encouragement to use homebrew and 3PP material?

No more than the open license in 3e was encouragement to use third party material. The only difference is that now WotC gets a piece of the monetary pie.

Can't the same thing be said about a WoTC product?

Indeed, some of the worst offenders for balance issues being introduced into the game were from WotC products themselves. Full blade wielding psionic half-giants and crap like that.

And on the flip side some of the best stuff to come out of 3e were third party products. Mearls and his work on Iron Kingdoms comes to mind.
