If your partner is the same size or smaller than you, sure, acrobatics or you can apply your dex instead of strength to your athletics check. But holding up a quaggoth? That seems like purely a feat of strength to me.

So...some relevant rules for fighting on a ledge:

If the ledge is narrower than 5' you must

a) squeeze (so your attacks are at disadvantage and attacks against you have advantage and you make dex saves at disadvantage)

b) you must use one hand to balance yourself or make a DC 10 Dex (acrobatics) check to maintain your balance when you attack or take damage. So no multi-attacks or using a shield unless you want to risk it. If the person behind you and is tied to you, they can spend their action to help you avoid falling by giving you advantage on the attack.

c) movement costs are doubled.

A does not apply to creatures with a natural climb speed if they are hanging on with at least one hand/hook

For large creatures, the ledge must be 10' or they are considered squeezing.

It is possible to make a shove attack to push a creature from the ledge. Those with a natural climb speed get advantage on the check to avoid falling (not causing it) if they have one hand holding onto the ledge. Anyone that is not attempting to hold on at all has disadvantage to avoid falling.

If it is a one handed weapon (hand crossbow, throwing axe, etc) you can hold on with the other hand and make the attack normally.

If it is a two handed weapon, you make the attack normally (with no chance of falling for bows, crossbows or similar mechanical weapons) but you suffer the other ill effects (like risking falling if you take damage) since you can't be holding on.
