Hasbro doesn't run D&D. They have their own company to manage. Handling aspects of the brands is the wheelhouse of the WotC CEO. If Hasbro wanted to run D&D the would have taken over the brands and merged with WotC.Never said it wasn't a successful edition, the issue isn't that itsn't successful, it's that Hasbro is more interested in movies and other deals then they are in producing the TRPG, so they keep the staff minimal, just enough to keep the IP alive, the success if this edition to peanuts to Hasbro.
Does WotC care little about the D&D RPG? Yeah. But this isn't really a surprise. The entire tabletop RPG industry does $35 million in retail each year. A single movie can do ten times that. (As does MtG).
WotC is a buisness, not a charity. They're not going to put out a book for a few dollars of profit. They're not doing it as a hobby after their day job like other publishers.
