Is that more a problem with the "academic" naming convention. Would you prefer the wizard sub-classes were Necromancer, Conjurer, Alchemist, Fire Lord, Warden, Diviner, etc.?

It's a problem with how the spells within the schools are organized. For example, controlling fire is a transmutation school spell, being immune to fire is an abjuration, while shooting fire from your hands is evocation, and summoning fire elementals is a conjuration. As opposed to there being a "fire/elemental school" and all spells related to fire/elements being a part of that school.

The latter is more intuitive to me than the former and seems more like how most people envision their fantasy spellcasters when not speaking in the idiosyncratic language of D&D.

The actual names don't bother me at all.

Dragon sorcerers should be fire-based, because they have some evil red dragon in their ancestry. I don't want to play in a world where blue dragons and white dragons and copper dragons also have romantic relationships with humanoid races. That's too much.

My PC's race: dragonborn, with resistance and breath weapon of a brass dragon.
My PC's class: sorceror, with Draconic Ancestry, specifically bronze.

Monster encounter: ancient copper dragon.

Monster reminisces about his adolescent experiments, long ago, with tin and zinc.

Rogue. Subclass: Thief. Sub-subclass: Burglar.

Sub-sub-subclass of Burglar is Building Entry Point Specialization, such as Windows, or Basements.

From there it's only one more step to the sub-sub-sub-subclass of sub-basements.

OH! I thought this poll was asking about submarine-themed subclasses, you know, like the the Nautilus Cleric, the Seawolf Barbarian, the Red October Sorcerer, the Periscope Wizard, the Radar Paladin, that sort of thing.
