Would you allow this?

Roleplaying in a RPG tends to mean "playing one's character". This is one way of playing one's character. Someone who describes the furniture in his/her PC's house isn't "not roleplaying" just because the purchase and arrangement of said furniture happened at some earlier, unspecified moment in the gameworld.

Unless the character is describing the furniture to someone in the game world, a player describing furniture is not "playing one's character." All the player is doing is reciting a description of something, which isn't roleplaying at all.

So if a Fighter casts invisibility because the player wants him to then that should be okay? Of course not. Did the Character in the game have their character do something that their character literally could not do? Yes. How is that any different?

What is the line between 'make believe whatever I say goes' and actual roleplaying?

Logic and sensible players.

Point well taken, however, there is a basis, although somewhat contrived, for the actual situation. While I would want to avoid a TPK, I
can't help feeling like the player had this "ace in the hole" for his PC, all along, didn't share it with the DM, and popped out the narrative,
last minute, on purpose. This does whiff somewhat of rules-lawyering, IMO.

Are you saying my logic and sensibilities are actually illogical and unsensible. Who made you the arbiter of all things logical and sensible?

Your players will make that determination for you. If your sensibilities are a good fit for theirs, great. If not, adjust or find another group.

No. What I meant was that at a table which allows things like the wing example, there is usually collaboration. If a player suddenly declares that her fighter can now turn invisible, the other players, as well as the GM, as final arbiter, are going to pretty much say, "nice try, forget it." Players are good at recognizing what does or doesn't work for the story, and what is just abuse. And, of course, the GM has final word. It's really a minority of players who'll attempt to run amok, because a GM allows player input.

My logic and sense comment was directed toward that, not as an insult.
